Best Time to Visit (Revisited):

I have visited many times to this cave as part of my spiritual quest and I can ensure you that the cave is accessible year-round, every single day it opens,  the most suited periods is October to June . These all months offer a balance of pleasant weather and best for trekking and meditating there.

You might see some snowfalls during the first week of February month, now the due to the change of the climate, nothing is sure and guranteed, especially in the Himalayan region of Babaji cave.  The Mid-March to mid-June, are  spring  and summer seasons, are highly recommended for clear skies and perfect temperatures.

Mahavatar Babaji’s Cave

As far I know about this place so far, it is very special place in the Himalayas, it has something that pulls your heart  out to fix it with  divine love and compassion.  I feel that  Mahavatar Babaji’s Cave trip is inner  journey, it is not about seeing and only meditating there, it is about listening, reflecting and contemplating.

Once you feel of going to see  Babaji cave, I strongly say to you it is call and do not miss this opportunity, it is  just not a cave it is the heart of the your Guru there on the earth.   The place resonates the spiritual vibes and heart to heart teachings of Babaji.

Why Babaji chose this area to revive the Kriya techniques? because this area of the Himalaya is sacred and holy, it dates back to Ramayana period, once was home to Sanjivani Booti (Selaginella bryopteris) which mentioned in Ramayana literature.  Lord Hanmuna visited to this place for the herb of immortality,  Pandava ( of Mahabharata ) visited this place during their exile, Guru Dronacharya did Tapasya ( penance ) on this mountain.

It is not an ordinary place it is super divine and spiritually charged place since ancient time, it offers Pandava Kholi ashram and cave, where you go by walk ( 3 km moderate challenging trail ), just above the Babaji cave, and there is also a very powerful temple is called Dunagari, the goddess of the Dunagri mountain.

Essential Tips for Pilgrims

There are other factors too that impact opening hour and closing hours , which must be considered before planning a trip to this holy site, are;

  1. The Itinerary: It should be at least a 2-night, 3-day trip to totally  immerse yourself in the experience there. This much time allows you  sufficient time for reflection and meditation there.
  2. The Trek: Easy offbeat trail  from Kukuchina village is approximately 3 kilometers and typically takes 1.5-2 hours for average walker. The trail is mix of some uphill climbing, so I can say it is  moderate physical challenge trail. If you are solo then you can hire a local guide to accompany you.
  3. What to Wear and carry: You do not worry about the temperature it is at 2000 meter from sea level, so  wear comfortable and very simple walking shoes. I have seen the people walking in flip-flop.
  4. Cod of conduct: Silence , no photo, modest dress etc.
  5. Accommodation:  Kukuchina village offers now plenty of accommodation options, the price per night there,  ranging from 1500 to 15000, my advise to book your stay in advance, especially during peak season.
  6. Nearest Reaching point: The nearest airport is called  Pantnagar Airport (PGH), 180 km / 6 hours from the cave. The nearest railway station is Kathgodam Railway Station, about 135 km away 5 hours.
  7. Monsoon Season:  As we have discussed here, it opens around the year, also during monsoon time too, I prefer to in the monsoon because love the greenery and landscapes, it is the best time for me. You can also go there, very good experience.
  8. Winter Season :  I have been during winter season  but I like summer season at least you can sit there in meditation, but during winter time, very cold but more silent then summer time.
