Mauni Baba Cave Rishikesh: The Best for Kriya Yoga Practice

Muani Baba Cave is the home of a Hindu Naga Sadhu who has lived in spiritual seclusion since childhood. Visitors can meet the Sadhu and gain rare insights into ascetic life, meditation, and Hindu spiritual traditions.

The Mouni Baba Cave Rishikesh is quite famous among spiritual travelers. There are many stories associated with it. People believe that the cave is filled with mystery and secrecy.  The visitors even come here from abroad too, but once the sun sets, no one dares to go near the cave.

It  is a special place in Rishikesh with a fascinating history. It connects to Kriya Yoga and  followers of Mahavatar Babaji. The cave is located inside Rajaji National Park, by the beautiful Himalayan water streams.

To reach this cave, you have to follow the walking  trails of Rishikesh to Neelkanth Mahadev Temple Paidal Marg, , the trail starts  from Ram Jhula Bridge to Mauni Baba cave. This cave is about 5 km away from  Ram Jhula bridge.

Sri M visit to the Mauni Baba Cave Ashram

Mauni Baba cave is the place where a very famous spiritual guru named Sri M and his guru, Maheshwarnath Ji, visited frequently for overnight stay while passing Rishikesh town. Sri Maheshwarnath Babaji is believed to be a very close disciple of Mahavatar Babaji.  He used to live in deeper part of the Himalayas of Uttarakhand.

Mauni Baba Cave is built by nature near Rishikesh. It is in the midst of mountains, surrounded by tall lush green  trees , the cave trail is widely famous track for bird-watching and nature walks.  During the winter, over 300 species of Himalayan birds migrate to Rajaji National Park near  cave area.

The cave is lived by a highly enlightened monk, belong to Udasin tradition , commonly referred to as Mauni Baba or Mouni Baba, now he is no more in body,  has passed away many years ago.  The  Mouni translates to “silence” and Baba refers to “Sadhu.” These ascetics tradition practice  silence throughout their lives as a means to spiritual  enlightenment.

A Living Cave in Rishikesh

There is a Sadhus resides in the  cave. He is well known as Jatadhari Baba,  a kind of a Himalayan ascetic who practices severe austerity and remains detached from the mainstream.

Jatadhari Baba follows Shaivism, a subsect of Shiva traditions, and normally keeps long hair that extends up to his feet. You meet also a disciple of Babaji who takes care of the cave.

How To Reach  Mauni Baba Cave

To reach Mauni Baba Cave, there are two main routes you can consider. The first option involves crossing the Ram Jhula Bridge, passing  Beatles Ashram and keep walking and following the foot trail Rishikesh to Neelkanth Paidal Marg , after  4- 5 km walks you reach  Mauni Baba cave.

Alternatively, you visit there  by hiring taxi,  you have to  drive through Bramhapuri bridge and after crossing the bridge which over the Ganges take right turn towards  Hardwar ( Neelkanth  Road  Haridwar ), after 4 km you reach Rishikesh – Neelkanth Temple Paidal  Marg, park there your vehicle and take 1 km long walk to reach  Mauni Baba Cave.
