Legends of Basukedar Temple

This divine temple was built by Pandavas when they were in search of Lord Shiva to absolve their sin from killing numerous people in the War. This the place where they saw Lord Shiva in the form of buffalo for the last time as he disappears from their to Kedarnath. Basukedar village is an ancient route to reach Kedarnath Temple, pilgrims use to trek via this village to reach Kedarnath temple.

Another legend is that Lord Shiva on his way back to Kedarnath stays in this place during the night to take rest. Thus this place is known as Basukedar. The word Basu means Stay and Kedra means Lord Shiva. Therefore, pilgrims who ever trek to Kedarnath stay here in the night. By taking the blessing of Lord Shiva in Basukedar temple starts their trek towards the Kedarnath.

The weather in Rudraprayag

If you are planning to visit Rudraprayag you should know the weather conditions so that you can plan accordingly.

During the monsoon season( July to September months ) this area receives moderate to a high amount of rainfall which makes this place look heavenly with its greenery by bringing freshness elsewhere.

Whereas during the winter season temperature go very low here winter starts from the month of December to March.

Summer season (April to June) where temperature range from 20 degrees to 36 degrees with the cool breeze. Summer is the best time to visit this place.

  • If you are visiting this place during the winter season, carry warm clothes as it will be cold all day. Plan to visit in summer. Carry sunglasses and sunscreen along with plenty of water with you.
  • Carry basic first aid box and mandatory medicine with you as this place is a remote location.
  • If you plan you are trip during rainy season carry raincoat along with waterproof shoes. One must be careful while trekking at this place.

This powerful and divine temple is located in Srinagar. One can reach this place either from Rudraprayag or from Srinagar as it is located in Kalyasaur. Dhar Devi temple is believed to be the guardian of the Uttarakhand and Chardham. Once a huge flood swept away everything in this region. After the calamity, a voice instructed people at his region to restore the idol which is stuck near a huge rock. What makes this temple special is Kali Maa idol will not be under any roof.

A divine Koteshwar Temple located on the banks of river Alaknanda. It is the place where Lord Shiva meditates on Lord Vishnu in a cave.
