The Neelkanth Mahadev Temple is a popular tourist destination for those who want to learn about the Hindu gods. The temple is named after Shiva, who is one of the most important gods in the Hindu pantheon.

The story goes that Shiva was asked to drink poison by the other gods in order to save them from its effects. The poison made Shiva’s throat turn blue, hence his nickname “Neelkanth,” which means “blue throat.”

The temple is a beautiful example of Hindu architecture and is surrounded by a peaceful garden. Visitors can explore the temple and learn about Hindu mythology. There are also a few things to do at the temple, such as taking part in the evening aarti ceremony or making an offering at the shrine.

    From Lakshman Jhula, you can get a shared vehicle (Jeep) for Neellkantha Temple at INR 250 per person, with sharing jeep, it takes 1 hr / 25 km & vice versa.
Tranquil and calm, the trek to Neelkanth Temple is a must-try experience for all trekking enthusiasts.   The best time to visit Neelkanth is from September to March.  There are a number of trekking and travel agencies in Rishikesh that organize Neelkanth treks.  

The main advantage of these agencies is that they are easy to reach from Rishikesh, which is the starting point of the trek.  You can also hire a private taxi or jeep from Rishikesh to Neelkanth.   It will cost you around Rs.1000 to 1500 for a full day.  The best time to visit Rishikesh is during winter and summer.  

The summers experience a high temperature of 40 degrees Celsius.   The winters are quite pleasant and experience cold weather of 20 degrees Celsius.
