Haridwar Evening Ganga Aarti

The Haridwar Ganga Aarti ceremony is a Hindu ritual dedicated to the Goddess Mother Ganga, the Goddess of the most sacred Indian River, the Ganges, and is celebrated every day at dawn and dusk in the sacred cities of Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Varanasi. For the Aarti or Arati ritual, a metal tray, strewn with flowers, is generally used, on which a metal or terracotta lamp is placed, filled with clarified butter, Ghee, or oil, to feed the flame burning a cotton wick. Large, richly decorated lamps are used for the most important and lavish public events.
