Swarg Ashram in Rishikesh: A overview

Swarg Ashram, located on the eastern banks of the holy Ganges in Rishikesh, near Ram Jhula, was established in memory of Swami Vishudhanand, also known as Kali Kamli Wala. It attracts both Indian and foreign tourists for its authentic spiritual atmosphere and clean, sacred environment.

  • The ashram offers various activities including yoga classes, morning prayers, meditation sessions, satsang (spiritual discourses), and evening Aarti ceremonies amidst beautiful gardens.
  • Swarg Ashram, also known as Shri 108 Baba Kali Kamli Wale Swami Atam Prakash Ji Ashram, is located in a picturesque setting on the left bank of the Ganges, between Rishikesh and Laxman Jhula.
  • This area, often referred to as “Ground Zero,” is surrounded by ashrams and temples, and has been a sacred spot for yogis and rishis practicing tapasya (austerity) since ancient times. It remains a serene and spiritually vibrant place attracting seekers and devotees from around the world.

  • Dharamshala: Swarg Ashram houses three Dharamshalas on its premises, serving pilgrims and religious visitors. It also operates a Dharamshala near Neelkanth Mahadev Temple in Pauri Garhwal district, heavily frequented by devotees and pilgrims.
  • Saint Kutirs: Swarg Ashram offers residence to Saints within its premises, where they engage in religious practices such as Dhyan, Bhajan, and Meditation. The ashram extends full support and assistance to these Saints during their stay, fostering an environment conducive to spiritual awakening.
  • Houses: The Trust oversees 119 dwelling units, distributed across 8 buildings including Shiv Ganga, Akash Ganga, Ganga Niwas, Ganga Line flats, Main Gaddi, Ganga Niketan, Samadhi flats, and rooms at Lakshmi Narayan Temple. Many of these accommodations offer views of the river, providing a serene and scenic environment for residents and visitors alike.

  • a. Ganga Aarti: Witness the captivating Ganga Aarti ceremony, a spiritual ritual performed at the Triveni Ghat, where devotees offer prayers to the sacred river with lamps and flowers. The mesmerizing sight of the lamps floating on the river is truly enchanting.

Our Experince

We stayed at Vanprastha Ashram, located at the end of the road in Swarg Ashram, Rishikesh. It’s a wonderful place to stay, with the Ganges River right at the ashram’s entrance. The room rates are reasonable, and the ambiance is excellent, offering a tranquil setting amidst the dharamshalas and temples along the banks of the Ganga near Ram Jhula in Rishikesh.

The meals at Swarg Ashram are prepared from donated cereals, and most days they are sponsored by donors at the following rates:
  • Sadharan Bhandara (Dal, Rice, Roti, Vegetable): Rs 4001/-
    Sadharan Ann Seva in Evening (Dal, Roti): Rs 2501/-
    Both the Meals: Rs 6501/-
    Special Bhandaras:
  • Halua, Poori, Vegetable: Rs 11,501/-
    Halua, Roti, Sabji, Dal, Rice: Rs 7501/-
