Patna Waterfall Rishikesh: Hiking Guide
Patna Waterfall is a small waterfall near Rishikesh just below the village of Patna. Here’s my hiking guide from Rishikesh. Looking for a short hike to see some waterfalls near Rishikesh? Patna Waterfall is a great option for those wanting to leave town and explore the serenity of the Rajaji Forest reserve on the banks of the Ganges.
In this guide, I’ll explain how to get to Patna Waterfall from Rishikesh, with photos, up-to-date information, and tips on what to see there.
Patna Waterfall Location
- The Waterfall is just approximately 5 km from the Laxman Jhula Bridge in Tapovan, Rishikesh, lies just below the the quaint village of Patna.
- To get here, you can either rent a motorbike from one of the many shops in the Tapovan area or walk for just over an hour on Neelkanth Temple Road, on the south side of the Ganges River.
- The waterfall track is found just off the main road, a bit after Garud Chatti Falls.
- At the trailhead, you’ll find a few stalls selling snacks and chai. There are no signs indicating the start of the Patna Waterfall hike, but you’ll see it just opposite the “Sidh Bali Temple, Neelkanth Temple,”
Hiking to Patna Waterfall Uttarakhand
- Hike Distance: 3 km round trip
- Duration: Approximately 2 hours including time at the waterfall
- Difficulty: Easy
Once you reach the trailhead beside the stalls on Neelkanth Temple Road, you’ll embark on a short but scenic 1.5 km walking track through the Rajaji Forest Reserve to Patna Falls.
There is no fee required to visit Patna Waterfall. The track is a bit steep but should be manageable for most people with a reasonable level of fitness.
After a brief ascent on a wide, clearly marked path through the picturesque forest, you’ll arrive at Patna Waterfall, a tall limestone feature sits in the Rajaji National Park jungle.

My Experience at Patna Falls
- The Waterfall is tall but has a gentle flow down its limestone face, making it a scenic spot to relax. We found a small, shallow pool below the waterfall where we enjoyed a natural shower on a warm day.
- The flow wasn’t strong, but it was refreshing after the hike. During summer, Patna Waterfall can dry up, while during monsoon, it can overflow onto the track, making access muddy and difficult.
- In my opinion, Patna Waterfall isn’t the most impressive in Rishikesh, but it’s still one of the best short hikes from town, offering a scenic walk and nearby limestone caves to explore.
