Triyuginarayan Temple: A  Pilgrimage Destination in Uttarakhand

Nestled in the serene Triyuginarayan village of Rudraprayag district, Uttarakhand, the Triyuginarayan Temple stands as a significant spiritual landmark. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, this ancient Hindu temple draws pilgrims from far and wide, largely due to the fascinating legend associated with it — the marriage of Lord Shiva to Goddess Parvati, which was witnessed by Lord Vishnu.

One of the temple’s most unique features is the perpetual fire that has been burning in the temple’s Havan Kund (sacred fireplace) since the time of this divine marriage. This eternal flame, known as Akhand Dhuni, has become a symbol of the undying love between Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, adding to the temple’s mystique and spiritual significance.

In addition to its sacred flame, the temple’s courtyard is the source of a water stream that fills four sacred kunds (bathing ponds) nearby, where pilgrims come to purify themselves. These ponds — Brahma Kund, Rudra Kund, Vishnu Kund, and Saraswati Kund — are revered for their spiritual significance and are often visited by those seeking blessings.

The name Triyuginarayan derives from three words:

      • “Tri” meaning three, Triyuginarayan Temple Timings
      • “Yugi” denoting the era or Yuga, and
      • “Narayan”, a name for Lord Vishnu.
