  • Rudraprayag Railway station is ready to become the nearest railway station to Kedarnath.
  • The final leg by road  of the journey involves covering the 70 km distance from Rudraprayag to Sonprayag.

  • It ensures a convenient transition from the railway station to the sacred destination. 

Project Overview:

The Rishikesh-Karnaprayag Railway Line, a venture led by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), boasts 12 stations along its 125.20 km stretch. With an estimated cost of Rs. 16,200 crore and a completion deadline set for December 2025.

This project is not only creating over 2000 jobs but is also considered of national strategic importance. Once operational, it will significantly improve connectivity to the revered Char Dham shrines of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Badrinath, and Kedarnath.

The railway line’s route encompasses 105.47 km (84.24%) of bridges and tunnels, including a remarkable 15.1 km tunnel—one of the longest in the country—stretching from Devprayag to Lachmoli.
