Rishikesh to Devprayag Train: Information and Updates

The new railway service from Rishikesh to Devprayag train in Uttarakhand is under construction set to revolutionize travel in the region. This will be the first railway line reaching into the hinterland of Uttarakhand, improving access to pilgrimage sites, boosting local trade, and aiding development in less accessible areas from Rishikesh to Devprayag by train.

The first section Rishikesh Devprayag is almost completed from Yog Nagari Rishikesh station, began operations in March 2025. The full route from Yog Nagari Rishikesh to Devprayag train is expected to be completed by December 2025. Yog Nagari Rishikesh Railway Station is designed to be modern, sustainable, and environmentally friendly.

The new railway line will link important towns such as Devprayag, Srinagar, Rudraprayag, Gauchar, and Karnaprayag, spanning five districts in Uttarakhand: Dehradun, Tehri Garhwal, Pauri Garhwal, Rudraprayag, and Chamoli. The first section, a 5.7 km stretch from Virbhadra station to Yog Nagari Rishikesh station, was completed in March 2020. The remaining line from Yog Nagari Rishikesh to Karnaprayag is expected to be finished by December 2024. The project involves dividing the tunneling work into 10 packages to ensure timely completion. Yog Nagari Rishikesh Railway Station is designed to be modern, eco-friendly, and resource-efficient.
