Recent Uttarakhand Flooding in Kedarnath Valley

Flash floods and cloudbursts have severely impacted various regions in Uttarakhand, leading to significant damage and disruption: Uttarakhand Flooding

  • Casualties and Injuries: As of 31st July, 17 lives have been lost and 25 people have been injured due to severe overnight rains. The heavy rainfall caused flooding and resulted in a house collapse, according to the Uttarakhand State Disaster Secretary.
  • Damage to Infrastructure: The intense rainfall has damaged key infrastructure, including concrete and footbridges on the Kedarnath route. This damage has led to the suspension of the Kedarnath Yatra due to hazardous weather conditions.

  • Obstructed Trekking Routes: Key trekking routes leading to Kedarnath have been blocked by boulders at locations such as Ghoraparav, Lincholi, Badi Lincholi, and Bhimbali. These obstructions have made travel and pilgrimage to Kedarnath challenging and unsafe.
  • Affected Areas: The Bal Ganga and Budhakedar areas in the Bhilangana development block of Tehri Garhwal have experienced significant damage due to heavy rains and subsequent landslides.
