Originally known as Nainital Zoological Park. It was later renamed the Bharat Ratna Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant Higher Terrestrial Zoological Park. Following a Supreme Court decision in September 2017.  It was eventually named the Govind Ballabh Pant Higher Terrestrial Zoological Park.

The zoo welcomes visitors every day, except Thursdays, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. An entry fee of Rs 100 is applicable, with free admission for children below 12 years of age and senior citizens.
