📖 Dhari Devi Temple History & Legends

According to ancient texts like the Devi Bhagwat Purana, the shrine is one of the 108 Shakti Sthals in India.

The Divine Legend

  • The idol of Maa Dhari Devi is believed to have two parts

  • The upper half is worshipped at Dhari Devi Temple

  • The lower half is worshipped at Kalimath Temple

Legend says that during a massive flood in the Alaknanda River, the idol of Goddess Kali got stuck against a large rock. Villagers heard a divine voice instructing them to install the idol at that exact spot—thus giving rise to the name Dhari Devi (Dhari meaning “to place”).

🌺 Dhari Devi Mandir Uttarakhand: Unique Worship Style

One of the most unique aspects of Dhari Devi Temple Uttarakhand is that:

  • The goddess is worshipped without a roof

  • The idol is placed in open air

Devotees believe Maa Dhari Devi prefers the open sky. She is worshipped as an avatar of Kali Mata, symbolizing power, protection, and justice.

Major festivals celebrated here include:

  • Navratri

  • Durga Puja

During these times, the temple is beautifully decorated with flowers, lamps, and devotional chants.
