Day 1 Rishikesh to Raithal
Dayara Bugyal Trek – The 9-hour road (approx) leading from Rishikesh to Raithal, the base camp of this trek, is a beautiful journey boasting scenic patches of forests with the River Bhagirathi flowing by. You will also pass through Uttarkashi on your way. When you are about to reach Raithal, keep your eyes on the horizon to witness a brilliant sunset over the Mt Jaonli and Draupadi ka Danda peaks. Rest up as there will be plenty of ascending trails to cover the next day.
Day 2
Set out for Gui and take in the stunning views of Gangotri 1, 2, 3, and Mt Srikanth. The first part of the journey is on a well-maintained path, while the latter part is through woods with oaks (green and brown) and rhododendrons. You will arrive at the campsite within 5-6 hours. There are small Tal, village huts that are utilized in the warmer months, and a cottage belonging to the forest department around the site.
Day 3 Gui TO Chilapada
Today’s hike will take you approximately 3 kilometers and will be a mix of flat and hilly terrain. You’ll be heading towards a small meadow in the forest called Gui Thatch. From here, you’ll have much better views of the Gangotri range, including the Jaunli peak and Mt Bandarpoonch. The path from Gui Thatch is relatively easy, which will give you time to enjoy the beauty of the Himalayan mountains and the rhododendron trees that dot the landscape. This easy part of the hike will last for about 500 meters before the path begins to get more difficult. Another half-hour hike and you will arrive at Chilapada.
Day 4 Chilapada to Dayara Top
The forest stretch to reach Dayara Bugyal from Chilapada is only a 6 km trek. You can spend almost an entire day taking in the sight of the massive undulating meadows covered in a thick blanket of snow. From here, take in the breathtaking sights of Mt Bandarpoonch and Kala Nag. Retrace your steps to Chilapada to get adequate rest.
Day 5 Chilapada to Raithal
Start your day early to get a head start on the trekking you’ll be doing today – most of it downhill. In about 90 minutes, you’ll reach the first campsite at Gui. After another hour, you’ll reach a clearing with a water source where you can refill your bottle and have a much-needed drink. Before continuing on the final leg of the journey to Raithal, take some time to rest and stretch your legs.
Day 6 Raithal to Rishikesh
Before you start your journey back to Rishikesh, make sure you get plenty of rest. You can start driving around 10 a.m. and take your time to enjoy the scenery along the way.
How To Reach
Rishikesh is well-connected to the rest of India via an expansive network of roads. From Delhi, the distance is approximately 256 km, and takes around 6 hours by road. The road from Rishikesh to Joshimath is about 260 km and takes 9 to 10 hours to travel by car – an adventure in itself as you’ll cross rolling meadows, mountain peaks, and riverbeds.
Jolly Grant Airport is just 24 kilometers from Rishikesh city. It’s well-connected to Delhi, and from there you can easily get to any major Indian city.
