Where is Uttarkashi?

Uttarkashi is a town located in the state of Uttarakhand in India, founded by Gangadhar Gautam. It is very close to Rishikesh and famous  as a holy town due to its high population of ashrams and temples, something largely attributed to its spirituality-driven location on the banks of the sacred river, Bhagirathi. Being home to many ashramas and temples is not the only thing that makes this town so popular around the globe.

  • If you’re looking for a local bus that runs only once every 72 minutes and makes inconsistent stops at undisclosed locations where you may or may not get off depending on how far the driver thinks he needs to go before his lunch break, look no further than Bhatwari village.

Nearest Airport -Jolly Grant

  • Jolly Grant Airport is the nearest airport to Uttarkashi. The airport is located at a distance of 160 km from Uttarkashi. Jolly Grant Airport has connecting flights to Delhi, which run daily. The roads in and around Uttarkashi are well maintained and commuters can opt for cabs from Jolly Grant Airport to reach the city.

Dayara Bugyal

Dayara Bugyal is a super pretty place up in the mountains! It’s like a magical meadow that sits really high, about 3,048 meters above sea level! From there, you can see the Himalayas, which are so tall and look like they touch the sky!

To get to Dayara Bugyal, you have to take a road that goes off near a little village called Bhatwari. If you stop at Barsu village on the way, it’s like a fun little adventure! After that, there’s an 8-kilometer trek where you walk to reach the meadow. It’s like going on a treasure hunt, and when you get there, it’s super exciting to see all the beautiful views!

Maneri Dam

Maneri is a cute little place that’s just 10 kilometers away from Uttarkashi! If you’re going to Gangotri, you’ll pass right by it! One of the coolest things there is a dam that sits across the Bhagirathi River. It’s like a big wall that holds back all the water!

In the village, there’s also a small lake that’s perfect for having a picnic! You can bring your yummy snacks and enjoy the sunshine while looking at the pretty water. It’s a super fun spot to play and relax with friends and family!

Nachiketa Tal

Nachiketa Tal is a lovely lake that sits right by the Bhagirathi River in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand! To get to this beautiful lake, you have to go on a little adventure and trek for 3 kilometers from a place called Chaurangikhal, which is about 30 kilometers from Uttarkashi.

If you’re in Uttarkashi, you can take a taxi or a sharing cab to Chaurangikhal. It’s like getting a ride to the start of your fun journey! Once you get to Chaurangikhal, you’ll walk to the lake, and it’s going to be so exciting to see the sparkling water when you arrive!
