On 28 May, the Uttarakhand state government signed an exciting MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Bartholet Maschinenbau AG, a famous Swiss ropeway company, to build a new ropeway from Tapovan in Rishikesh to the Kunjapuri Temple in Narendranagar (Tehri Garhwal).

How Will the Ropeway Be Built?

The project will follow a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, using a system called Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Transfer (DBFOT). That means:

• The company designs and builds it
• They invest their own money
• They run it for some years
• And later, transfer it back to the government

Bartholet will also prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) based on techno-economic studies, and they will do it at their own cost!
