Originally established in 1936 as Hailey National Park in Uttarakhand, it was later renamed Jim Corbett National Park. In 1970, India had only five national parks.

In a bid to safeguard the habitats of species reliant on conservation efforts, India enacted the Wildlife Protection Act in 1972 and initiated Project Tiger in 1973. These measures aimed to bolster conservation efforts and protect the rich biodiversity of the region.

Corbett National Park Ramnagar

Located about 35 miles northwest of Ramnagar, the park ranges from 1,260 to 3,610 feet in elevation. The Ramganga River flows through the Patlidoon Valley, forming a reservoir used for sport fishing. The park’s forests are home to various species, including Bengal tigers, langurs, bears, elephants, and numerous birds.

It also hosts various reptiles and amphibians, including snakes and crocodiles. Moreover, it boasts a rich bird population, with at least 600 species of resident and migratory birds recorded.

The park is open from mid-November to mid-June, offering Jeep Safari Tours along accessible roads. Machans provide observation points, and overnight accommodations are available within the park.
