Badhangarhi Temple Gwaldam Uttarakhand: A Life-Altering Journey

Hence, temples have been a big part of Indian culture and history, I have never been part of that craze. Now and then I hear my friends embarking on these spiritual journeys and I often found myself wondering what’s the appeal. However, as fate has it, on a very fine day I found myself packing for the Badhangarhi Temple in Gwaldham. along with Mahavatar Babaji Cave

Overview: Badhangarhi Temple

Many people believe that one doesn’t simply visit temples, it calls to them. I was not one of those people. Yet, when I came across this enchanting Gwaldam tour package, I couldn’t resist myself. It was the perfect vacation I was looking for serene locales, lovely green meadows and nature all around.

However, what I didn’t anticipate was that Gwaldam had another surprise waiting for me- The magnificent Badhangarhi temple.

My Travel Diary

  • To start, I have been to Uttaranchal, especially the Kumaon hill region before. This region is bustling with greenery and is a treat to the sore eyes.
  • Gwaldham too is located at the heart of the Garhwal & Kumaon hills. As my tour of Gwaldam commenced, I found myself being greeted by marvellous apple orchards and scintillating views of the Nanda Devi.
  • The highlight of my Gwaldam tour was the Badhangarhi temple and while I was reluctant I went along.
  • The entire route to the Badhangarhi temple is extremely scenic and oddly I felt something spiritual for the first time. Everything was quiet and the entire atmosphere complete with trees felt divine.
  • The temple is about 8 km from the main area of Gwaldham. As my car slowly came to a halt, I could see the beautiful temple. Located at an altitude of 2,260 m above sea level, it is an easy walk.
  • My car halted at Taal, which is about 4 km away from the temple. From here I had to undertake a tranquil walk to reach the Badhangarhi temple.

History: Badhangarhi Temple

  • As I finally reached the temple I let out a gasp. Something about the Badhangarhi temple gripped me and I felt a strong presence surrounding me. The temple’s architecture was humble, and yet something extremely powerful seemed to have made it their abode.
  • The temple is built in honour of the powerful goddess Kali and Lord Shiva. People believe that it was built during the Katyuri dynasty.
  • I stepped inside the temple, as the many bells hung above me started to toll. The voice reverberated inside the little temple as I bowed my head down. Hordes of pilgrims were roaming around all devoted to the deities.
  • As I started at the temple, I too felt the kind of devotion that I have often heard of. It was as if the Goddess inside me and was blessing me in every way.
  • After I finished gasping at the temple, I decided to walk around the complex and explore more. I came across a lovely point from where you can get the most enchanting views of peaks like Nanda Devi, Trishul or Panchachuli.

 Gwaldam ( Badhangarhi Temple )

  • After having such a wonderful and life-changing experience at the Badhangarhi temple, my Gwaldam tour package included lovely sightseeing.
  • I once again got into my tour car and we head off to the mysterious and sleepy town of Gwaldam. The pristine aroma of the woods filled my lungs, as the mountain peaks provided the perfect backdrop. My mind was finally at peace.
  • As I entered the town I could see the Border Security Force training facility stretched over the upper town. It almost makes the town feel like a cantonment area.
  • This little hill station still has the smell of the colonial era, and one almost feels nostalgic here.
  • My Gwaldham tour package also included three marvellous walks, all of which start at Benatoli. These walks were refreshing and took me to the heart of nature. They are easy and perfect for a relaxed, idle afternoon,
  • Finally, my Gwaldham tour concludes with the Bodhi Mandir at Baghtoli. A Buddhist gompa that is now filled with intricate statues of the Buddha.
  • I also went up the narrow staircase to reach the top. From here you can see the magnificent view of the entire valley of Gwaldham.

Bidding Adieu

In conclusion, the Badhangarhi Temple is a hidden gem of Uttarakhand, known for its unique architecture, natural beauty, and spiritual significance. It is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a spiritual experience or a peaceful retreat in the lap of nature. So, if you are planning a trip to Uttarakhand, make sure to include the Badhangarhi Temple in your itinerary and experience the divine energy and beauty of this ancient temple.
