Varanasi Ropeway: Project will be Inspired by Lord Shiva

The Varanasi Ropeway, stretching over 3.85 kilometers and costing around Rs. 644 crores, is a part of the Parvatmala Pariyojana and marks the first urban ropeway ( cable car )  project in the country. The project aims to streamline transportation in the city, making it easier for pilgrims, tourists, and locals to navigate Varanasi’s vibrant streets.

Key Features of the Varanasi Ropeway Project:

1. Fast and Efficient Travel:

   • The ropeway will connect Varanasi Cantt station to Godowlia, reducing travel time from 45 minutes to just 16 minutes.
   • Operating for 16 hours every day, the cable cars will offer a convenient and efficient mode of transportation.

2. Capacity and Convenience:

   • The system boasts 153 gondolas, each capable of carrying ten passengers, facilitating the movement of 3,000 people per hour in each direction.
   • The five stations along the 3.75 km route include Vidya Peeth, Bharatmata Mandir, Rath Yatra, Girja Ghar, and Godowlia Chowk.

3. Pilgrim and Tourist Friendly:

   • With stops at key landmarks and religious sites, the ropeway is designed to cater to the needs of pilgrims, tourists, and locals alike.

Foundation of Blessings:

On March 24, 2023, Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for this groundbreaking project. The Varanasi Ropeway Station is not just a means of transportation but a symbol of progress and connectivity, bridging the gap between tradition and modernity.

Varanasi Junction Railway Station to Gadaulia

A 3.85 km journey that will span from Varanasi Junction Railway Station to Gadaulia, with five distinctive stations along the way. These include stops at Cantt Railway Station, Kashi Vidyapeeth, Rath Yatra, Church, and the bustling Godaulia intersection. The Varanasi ropeway will promise a swift ride, covering the distance in just 16 minutes.

Imagine gliding through the air at a height of 35 to 45 meters on one of the 150 trolley cars. Each cable car will carry 10 passengers at time. These trolleys provide a breathtaking view of the city below. The ropeway, constructed at an estimated cost of ₹644 crore, aims to enhance ease of movement, making transportation fast and secure for over 1 lakh people daily.
