Discover the Marine Drive Rishikesh: A Riverside Walk

There are many popular tourist sites in Rishikesh, like the Lakshman Jhoola and Ram Jhoola bridges, and famous ashrams like Sivananda’s, Omkarananda’s, and Parmarth Niketan. To see and be a part of the evening aarti (prayer ceremony) at the Ghats of Ganga is a beautiful sight that you have to experience for yourself – words cannot do it justice. Recently, a walking path called Aastha Path (also known as Asthapath or Marine Drive Rishikesh) has been built along the Ganga river.

Rishikesh & Haridwar

RRishikesh and Haridwar have long beckoned to the souls of Sadhus and spiritual seekers, serving as sanctuaries of introspection. These twin towns hold timeless significance as Hindu pilgrimage sites, where the Ganga’s flow transforms into a lifeline for the plains’ inhabitants, until it merges with the Bay of Bengal.

Walk Along  Ganga

Let’s embark on a tranquil journey along the Ganga’s side, embraced by towering cliffs on one side and the gentle Ganga on the other. Along theMarine Drive Rishikesh, inviting gazebos offer uninterrupted river views, inviting you to meditate or simply find solace. For those seeking respite, benches facing the Ganga punctuate the way, providing moments of reflection and communion.

There are small temples at regular intervals along the Aastha Path. Some of them have Ghats leading to the Ganga. There are also small Ghats built at regular intervals for people to go and meet the Ganga up close and personal.

Temples & Ghats Along the Path

Small temples grace the Marine Drive Rishikesh at regular intervals, some leading to Ghats that beckon you to the Ganga’s embrace. These intimate spaces foster a personal connection with the sacred river, allowing you to draw close and bask in its divine aura.

A Blissful Sojourn

Any time of day is perfect for a leisurely stroll along the Astha Path or Marine Drive Rishikesh. I’ve wandered its length during both morning and evening, always finding serenity. It’s a space to cherish solitude, whether you’re observing the Ganga’s graceful flow, contemplating the visage of spiritual seekers, meditating, or simply finding inner peace. One evening, I ambled from Sai Ghat to Triveni Ghat, gracing the evening aarti with my presence—an experience beyond words.

Tranquil Path Along Ganga

Discover a serene walking path aligning the Ganga’s edge in Rishikesh—a tranquil haven for leisurely saunters. Extending from the barrage to Triveni Ghat, with future plans to reach Ram Jhoola, this path spans around 20-25 feet wide. Descend about 50 steps from the adjoining road to access its calming embrace.

Ganga’s Tranquil Embrace

On the opposite bank, lush forests grace the Ganga’s presence, enhancing the serene narrative of the river’s gentle meandering. As she flows through twists and turns, she reveals sandy shores and mountain encounters. This journey isn’t merely a river’s passage; it’s akin to a young girl’s exploration, with each curve a story of her evolving identity.

A Safe Refuge for Strolls

The design of the Astha Path or Marine Drive Rishikesh ensures a safe haven for walkers, barricading vehicles and offering a peaceful haven for leisurely ambles. The path’s length currently spans approximately 2.5 KM, adorned with sturdy ramparts that blend harmoniously with elegant lampshades. Interestingly dubbed “marine drive” by locals, this moniker adds a touch of change to the spiritual landscape, underscoring its allure as Rishikesh’s inviting sanctuary.
