Yamunotri Ropeway Project: Work Begins
The much-awaited Yamunotri Ropeway Project has started. A land worship ceremony was performed at the proposed lower terminal in Kharsali by Yamunotri Sky Car Private Limited.
- The ropeway will cost ₹170 crore to build.
- It will be 3.9 km long.
- The ropeway can carry 580 people per hour in one direction.
- 10 towers will be built between Kharsali and Yamunotri Dham.
Yamunotri Ropeway Construction on Public-Private Partnership Mode
The Ropeway Project is being built under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode. The state government has given the responsibility to a private company, Yamunotri Sky Car Private Limited.
- The lower terminal will be at Kharsali, and the upper terminal will be near the police station at Yamunotri Dham.
- The ropeway is designed to run at a speed of 6 meters per second.
- It will take just 15 minutes to travel from Kharsali to Yamunotri Dham.
Lower Terminal at Kharsali Being Built First
The CEO of Yamunotri Sky Car Private Limited, Aviral Jain, informed District Magistrate Dr. Mehrban Singh Bisht on Saturday that the construction of the lower terminal at Kharsali has begun.
- The terminal will include a parking area with space for:
- 250 cars
- 30 bikes
- 40 traveler vans
- Dr. Bisht has instructed the company to complete the project on time.
Yamunotri Ropeway: Connecting Yamunotri to Kharsali
The Ropeway Project will connect the Yamunotri shrine to Kharsali village. The government will transfer 3.8 hectares of land for the project.
Key Details:
- The ropeway will be 3.7 km long.
- It will reduce the travel time from 5 hours to just 10 minutes.
- Construction will begin this summer and finish by 2025.
- It will have a capacity of 400 passengers per hour in each direction.
- The cost of the project is yet to be finalized.
