Tons River Uttarakhand:

The Tons River, the largest and most significant tributary of the Yamuna, flows through the picturesque Garhwal region, touching the border of Himachal Pradesh. This mighty river originates in the snow fields beyond the renowned Har Ki Dun valley.

It is formed by the confluence of two rivers—Supin and Rupin, which merge near Naitwar, giving rise to the Tons River. Along its course, you can find the historic Duryodhan Temple in Jakhol, perched on its banks, making the area a rich blend of culture and natural beauty.

The History & Legend

The Tons Valley  River is the utmost confluent of the Yamuna River. More than 70% of the water in the Yamuna River that you see, literally comes from this Tons River.

The history of the Tons Valley dates back to the Mahabharata period & belongs to Kaurava Dynasty.  There are two temples widely famous, 1 –  Karna Temple in Sarnaul and  2- Pokhu Devta Temple.

This tons valley offers you a 14-kilometer-long village trail up to Kalap village.

Village Life in the Tons Valley 

Doni village central attraction – There is no homestay even guesthouses or hotels in the valley. You will stay with the family in their very big wooden house.

Here, you see only small villages with few people living in the village.  Life follows the rhythm of nature, almost all the villagers are engaged in farming and raising domestic husbandry for livelihood.

Overnight in Doni Village 

The houses are here very large and entirely made from wood in Doni village. The architecture and the layout of the Doni village’s temple are in the typical Pagoda style.

The village offers you enchanting mountain landscapes, gushing mountain streams, and charming wooden-style houses.   You find here a sitting area, balcony, and sleeping area for visitors.

You do not find any attached bathrooms in the village houses. If you want to go to the toilet, you have to leave the house and walk up narrow trails to the far-constructed bathroom. In the nighttime, you need to have a flashlight or torch in hand.

The Kalap Village

The  Kalap village lies on a ridge of the mountaintop in the Tons Valley. The Kalap Village is an untouched jewel in the Uttarakhand Himalayas.

Chardham – En-route Destination

The Tons Valley lies in the far northwestern region of the state of Uttarakhand. It is about 225 kilometers from the nearest railhead Yog Nagari Rishikesh, about 200 km from the Dehradun airport, and about 400 kilometers by surface from Delhi.
