Sivananda Kutir- In the Himalayas
Sivananda Kutir is a yoga center founded in 1991 that is situated by the holy Ganga river and against the backdrop of the Himalayas. The ashram is located in Netala, a small village eight kilometers north of Uttarkashi. The altitude and snow-clad Himalayan peaks provide a natural setting for the practice of yoga.
The Devbhumi area, meaning “Land of the Gods”, is known for its stunning natural scenery and respected for its rich spiritual heritage, with thousands of years of religious practice. Here sages and saints have found peace and enlightenment throughout the ages.
The Kutir Offers
Sivananda Kutir’s Teacher Training Courses (TTC) and Sadhana Intensive courses are available from April to November each year. The Yoga Vacation program starts in May and runs through September. Booking early is essential as both courses and the yoga vacation fill up quickly.

Location
There is a sense of rare and timeless purity in the air as if you can taste divine. It’s no wonder that the ashram is mentioned as a place of great sanctity in the great Indian epic, the Mahabharata. The source of two of the holiest rivers in India, the Ganga at Gangotri and Yamuna at Yamunotri, both highly revered pilgrimage sites, is accessible from the ashram. Their proximity adds to the atmosphere of exaltedness, both physical and spiritual.
Sri Swami Vishnudevananda
Sri Swami Vishnudevananda, a disciple of Sri Swami Sivananda of Rishikesh, founded the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres organization. The organization has locations around the world and is dedicated to the teaching of classical yoga and Vedanta to promote physical, mental, and spiritual health. The organization is recognized internationally as one of the most important and authentic yoga institutions in the world.
The Principles of Yoga, as taught by our founder Swami Vishnudevananda, provide a comprehensive and easily accessible foundation for practicing yoga and incorporating its wisdom into daily life. These principles–the core teachings of the four paths of traditional yoga– comprise the essence of what yoga has to offer, making the ancient sage’s teachings available to beginners and experienced practitioners alike.
