Narkota Bridge in Uttarakhand: The1st state’s Signature Bridge

Uttarakhand is constructing its first curved “Narkota Bridge” at Narkota on the Rishikesh-Badrinath Highway. Once completed, this bridge will help avoid the frequent landslides at Sirobagad. Traffic is expected to start on the new bridge by May next year. The 110-meter-long bridge is being built under the All Weather Road Project with a cost of Rs 64 crore.

Sirobagad

Sirobagad on the Rishikesh-Badrinath Highway is a landslide-prone area where debris often closes the highway for several days. With the completion of this bridge at Narkota Gadere, travel will become safer and more reliable.

  • For the Narkota bridge’s safety, it will have safety cables on both sides and overhead. The Narkota bridge will span 110 meters and will be illuminated at night. After the bridge is completed, work on the approach road will also be finished.

According to Tanuj Kamboj, the Executive Engineer of the NH section, the bridge is being funded by RVNL. It is expected to be ready before the monsoon arrives, and then work on the approach road will begin.

Advantage

The Narkota bridge in Uttarakhand  will not only make travel easier but is also expected to boost tourism in the area. Construction has been ongoing for the past 11 months, and the work on both pillars is in the final stages. The bridge is anticipated to be open to the public before the monsoon season begins by 2025.

Narkota Village, Rudraprayag

Narkota village is located in the Augustmuni block of Rudraprayag district and falls under the Narkota Gram Panchayat. It covers an area of 183.17 hectares.

The  Narkota village has a total population of 357 people, living in 83 families. The male population is 165, while the female population is 192. The sex ratio is 1164, which is higher than the Uttarakhand average of 963. There are 45 children aged 0-6 years, and the child sex ratio is 1143, also higher than the Uttarakhand average of 890.
