Discover Sanskrit Village in Uttarakhand | Dimmar village Karnprayag

In the hills of Uttarakhand, a rise of Sanskrit language  brightly in Dimmer village, recently designated as the model Sanskrit village in Uttarakhand. Dr. Chandi Prasad Ghildiyal, Assistant Director of Education and Sanskrit Education Department, shared this uplifting news in Dehradun on April 5, 2023.

Under the visionary initiative of the state’s Sanskrit Directorate, Dimmer village is set to embark on a transformative journey. The ambitious goal is to establish 13 model Sanskrit villages in Uttarakhand across 13 districts of Uttarakhand, with Dimmar leading the way.

Dimmar village  & Dimri community

In Dimmer village turned as Sanskrit village in Uttarakhand, so  will no longer remain confined to the realms of academia but will permeate the daily lives of women, children, and elders alike. A dedicated Sanskrit instructor will be appointed to impart the language to villagers, with a monthly honorarium of Rs 12,000.

How to Reach Sanskrit Village in Uttarakhand

Dimmer village is a mere 7 kilometers from Karnaprayag on the Karanprayag-Simli motorway, Dimmer village is home to a diverse community, comprising 250 Brahmin, 150 Rajput, and 100 Scheduled Caste families.

The Dimri Brahmins, custodians of Badrinath Dham’s worship rituals, oversee religious ceremonies from Mata Murti to Joshimath Narasimha Temple. The Gadu Ghada of Badrinath Dham is also managed from Dimmer Village, further cementing its significance in religious affairs.

Sanskrit College in Uttarakhand

Dimmer Village’s longstanding dedication to Sanskrit education is evident through the presence of Sanskrit College, established in 1918 and currently managed by the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee. From primary classes to Acharya level education, the college offers a comprehensive Sanskrit curriculum, supported by generous donations of land from Dimri families and the provision of hostel facilities.
