Uttarakhand to Set Up 5 New International Yoga Hubs in India
Uttarakhand Launches Yoga Policy 2025 to Build Global Yoga Ecosystem
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating a strong and sustainable yoga ecosystem in Uttarakhand under the newly launched Yoga Policy 2025.
“We aim to create a robust yoga ecosystem in the state,” said officials, outlining the vision behind the policy.
As part of this ambitious plan, the state will set up five international yoga hubs and create a dedicated Directorate of Yoga and Naturopathy. This body will oversee the standardization, recognition, and regulation of yoga centres across Uttarakhand.

Promoting Yoga for All Age Groups
Shailesh Bagouli, Secretary to the Chief Minister, highlighted the wider goal of the policy: to promote yoga as a tool for health and wellness among all sections of society.
“Community-based special health programmes will be designed to cater to the needs of different age groups,” he stated.
Yoga Tourism to Boost Uttarakhand’s Global Image
A major highlight of the policy is its strong push for yoga tourism. The goal is to position Uttarakhand as a top international destination for holistic wellness and spiritual retreats.
To achieve this, the government will:
-
Enforce strict guidelines for yoga teaching institutions
-
Integrate yoga education into school and college curricula
-
Launch capacity-building programmes in partnership with national and international organisations
These steps will ensure the training of a large number of qualified yoga professionals, ready to meet global standards.

Uttarakhand to Set Up 5 New International Yoga Hubs
The Uttarakhand government has announced the establishment of five new international yoga hubs at Jageshwar, Mukteshwar, Vyas Valley, Tehri Lake, and Kolidhek Lake. These scenic and spiritually significant locations will complement the well-established Rishikesh, which is already a world-famous yoga destination.
New Directorate of Yoga and Naturopathy
To support and regulate this growth, a Directorate of Yoga and Naturopathy will be created. This body will oversee:
- Registration and recognition of yoga centres
- Quality standards and rating systems
- Promotion of national and international collaborations
This move aims to boost professionalism and global trust in Uttarakhand’s yoga ecosystem.
Incentives for Yoga Centre Development
To promote investment in the sector, the Dhami government has announced significant financial incentives:
- Hill Regions: Up to 50% of the project cost or ₹20 lakh as a government grant
- Plains: Up to 25% of the project cost or ₹10 lakh grant
These incentives are expected to attract private investment and drive sustainable growth in the wellness and tourism sectors.
Rs 35 Crore Investment & Job Creation
Over the next five years, the Uttarakhand government will invest ₹35 crore in this ambitious yoga initiative. The plan includes:
- Over 13,000 jobs to be created
- 2,500 certified yoga teachers
- 10,000+ yoga instructors to gain employment
This policy is not only a step toward strengthening Uttarakhand’s identity as the Yoga Capital of the World, but also a major employment generator for the region.
