Pilgrimage to Mahavatar Babaji Cave Ranikhet with Kainchi Dham

The highlight of Mahavatar Babaji Cave Ranikhet trip is the beautiful hillside where Lahiri Mahasaya is suppose to have first met Mahavatar Babaji in the autumn of 1861, which holds the cave where Lahiri passed a previous incarnation. Mahavatar Babaji awarded Lahiri Kriya Yoga initiation on this place, thus spreading around the world. You’ll devote most of your day  on this hillside,   meditating in the cave itself as long as you able.

Mahavatar Baba Cave Ranikhet & Kainchi Dham Ashram pilgrimage take you to two very spiritually important  spots in Uttarakhand Himalayas of India. The Mahavatar Babaji Cave Ranikhet  in the Himalayas is supposed be the sport where Mahavatar Babaji, a highly elevated spiritual yogi ( incarnation of Shiva ) , meditated inside the cave.

Kainchi Dham Ashram lies just 15 km away more up and before famous Ranikhet Hill station on the way to Mahavatar Babaji Cave in India , is home to the Hanuman Temple, dedicated to the god Hanuman.

Babaji’s Cave area is the very spot where Lahiri Mahasaya met with Babaji in 1861 and  now very spot popular as the birth of Kriya Yoga among Kriya  Yoga devotees in this Dwapara Yuga. All the Kriyabans ( devotees )  in the world now  tracing  their lineage to this cave.

The Babaji cave lies on the Pandukholi Mountain beyond the village of Kukuchina ( just only 25 km from Dwarahat town). The mountain trail to the cave is being renovated frequently after each monsoon.

The trekking to the Babaji  cave takes normally one hour for the average person. During the rains there are a few streams come alive along the path which feed the Gogash River, for more details you read the book ” Autobiography of a Yogi”

The trip to the cave and back from the Dwarahat normally takes about Six to Eight hours.

Day 01: Arrive at Kathgodam – Drive to Kainchi Dham

Your journey starts in the morning. Our representative picks you up from Kathgodam or Pantnagar and takes you to Kainchi Dham. This place is famous for the Neem Karoli Baba Ashram Nanital. After reaching, you check in at your hotel and rest for the night.

Day 02: Explore Kainchi Dham

After a delicious breakfast at your hotel, you will visit the Neem Karoli Baba Ashram. You take blessings from Baba and visit the other temples in the ashram, such as the Radha Krishna Temple, Prajapati Temple, and Nava Graha Shani Temple. You can also join the Satsang and attend the evening aarti. After darshan, you return to your hotel and stay overnight.

Day 03: Drive to Dwarahat (4–5 Hours)

Today, you drive towards Dwarahat via Ranikhet. On the way, you enjoy beautiful views of hill stations, villages, and the views of the Himalayas. As you get closer to Dwarahat, the fresh and clean mountain air makes you feel refreshed and awesome.  After reaching, you visit the YSS Ashram and  Dwarahat group of temples ,stay overnight in a guest house or tea house in Dwarahat.

Day 04: Visit to Babaji’s Cave (Kukuchina – 25 km Drive, 2 km Trek)

You start early in the morning. First, you drive 25 km to Kukuchina village, last village near Babaji cave. From there, you trek about 2 km to reach Mahavatar Babaji’s Cave . The trek takes 1  hour depending on your pace and strength. Once you reach the cave, you spend time in meditation there  for 1–2 hours and feel the peaceful energy of the place.

This is the holy spot where Babaji met Lahiri Mahasaya in 1861 and introduced Kriya Yoga to him. After spending time in meditation and contemplation  there at the cave site , you return to end of trail  Kukuchina and drive back to Dwarahat. You spend the night at your guest house.

Day 05: Dwarahat to Kathgodam (115 km – 4–5 Hours)

This is the last day of your trip to Mahavatar Babaji Cave.  After breakfast and after chek out,  you start your drive to Kathgodam. On the way, you can visit Ranikhet if time permits. We drop you off at Kathgodam by afternoon or evening as per your train schedule, ending your peaceful and spiritual journey.

Dwarahat

Dwarahat is a small town in the remote area of  Almora district in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, India. It lies on average altitude of 5000 ft (1500 m). The climate of Dwarahat town is cool all round the year but  normally is cold in the winter months (November-February).

The YSS Ashram

The YSS Ashram lies  about 1.5 km  by road from the Dwarahat chowk  and ashram is filled by pine trees forest from  all around . On the way from town to the YSS Ashram, to the right is the Government Rest House where Sri Daya Mataji had spent some nights during her visit to the Mahavatar cave Ranikhet in 1963-64 as the YSS ashram was not built then.
