Adding to Kailasagiri’s Beauty
The Ropeway is a fun way to reach the top of Kailasagiri Hill. It started on May 5, 2004 and is the first ropeway in Andhra Pradesh and all of coastal India. Visitors enjoy a 360-degree view from glass cabins while riding the 375-meter-long ropeway.
Ride to the Idols
People visiting Lord Venkateswara’s temple at Tirupati-Tirumala may not have a ropeway, but in Vizag, the ropeway takes you to the giant idols of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The cabins are 4 to 10 meters above the ground, and the ride from the foothill near Appu Ghar junction to the hilltop takes less than three minutes.
About the Ropeway
The Conveyor Ropeway Services Pvt. Ltd. from Kolkata built the ropeway under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) project for ₹3 crores. It has 8 cabins, each seating 6 people, and stations for boarding and getting off. The imported rope and tall towers make it very attractive to tourists.
Amazing Views
From the ropeway, you can see the beach from Dolphin’s Nose to Appu Ghar and an aerial view of Visakhapatnam’s city, surrounded by hills and greenery. This ropeway also supports the Circular Train Project, giving a bird’s-eye view of the beautiful hills, valleys, and beaches.

Kailasagiri – A Place of Endless Beauty
Kailasagiri is a beautiful hilltop park with a stunning sea view on the East Coast. From the top, you can see the entire city of Visakhapatnam. There are huge, peaceful statues of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi that remind you of Manasa Sarovar in the Himalayas.
This park is one of the best tourist spots in Andhra Pradesh. It covers 380 acres of land with beautiful gardens, tall trees, and lush greenery. The hill is 360 feet high and gives amazing views of the beaches, forests, and the busy city.
Kailasagiri is also a favorite place for film shootings. There are many attractions, like the Titanic viewpoint, a floral clock (one of India’s biggest, 10 feet wide), Shanku-Chakra Namas of Lord Venkateswara, and a gliding point. There are also food courts with tasty dishes.
On the hilltop, you’ll find Shanti Ashram, a peaceful place for meditation. There are many viewpoints around the park to enjoy the beautiful views. A capsule lift takes visitors higher up for a better look at the blue sea, the city, and the hill’s beauty.
Kailasagiri – Awarded and Eco-Friendly Hilltop
The Government of Andhra Pradesh awarded Kailasagiri as the “Best Tourist Spot” in 2003. The hilltop is easy to reach through ghat roads, and there are two stairways for those who want to walk up. The hill enjoys pleasant weather all year round.
Upcoming Attractions:
- A Butterfly Park
- The Highest Manmade Waterfalls
Around 3 lakh tourists, both Indian and foreign, visit Kailasagiri every year. It is a must-see place for anyone coming to Visakhapatnam, including State guests and VIPs.
Kailasagiri is also plastic-free, thanks to VMRDA’s efforts. Instead of forcing rules, tourists were educated about the plastic ban, which is now followed voluntarily.
