Jolingkong to Kuti Village: A Remarkable experience

Jolikong, near Adi Kailash, has a base camp of the Army and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). The border of India, Tibet, and Nepal is about 40 km from here. Civilians can only go up to this point. Jolikong has very few hotels.

Adi Kailash is said to be the place where Shiva and Parvati stopped while going to Mount Kailash. Locals believe there is a Parvati temple where she took a bath. A pond is still there to show this story.

The journey towards Kuti Village, particularly the fifth day of the expedition from Jolingkong to Kuti, is truly remarkable and filled with unique experiences.

As you traverse this picturesque route, you’ll encounter awe-inspiring mountains, meandering streams flowing alongside the path, invigorating fresh air, and a profoundly spiritual ambiance that resonates with devotees chanting the name of Lord Mahadev.

Adi Kailash Dharchula-Adi Kailash-

The Adi Kailash Dharchula-Adi Kailash-Darchula journey can typically be completed within ten days. You’ll cover an average distance of 18 kilometers per day, but you have the flexibility to adjust your journey’s duration according to your preferences by either increasing or decreasing your daily walking distance.

If your journey includes photography, it’s advisable to allocate some additional days, as both Om Mountain and Adi Kailash are often shrouded in clouds, offering unique photographic opportunities.

Gunji  ( Jolingkong )

The path followed by pilgrims to Kailash Mansarovar and Adi Kailash Yatris remains the same until Gunji. From Gunji, one route leads to Adi Kailash via Nabi, Kuti, and Jolingkong, while the second route heads towards the Lipulekh Pass via Kala Pani (the origin of the Kali River) and Nabhidhang (at an elevation of 3987 meters), which serves as the entry point to Tibet for Kailash Mansarovar pilgrims. Along this route, you can catch a glimpse of Om Mountain from Nabhidhang.

Gunji to Jolingkong Distance

The distance from Gunji to Jolingkong, which serves as the base for Adi Kailash, is approximately 20–25km by road and can be covered in about 2–3 hours, depending on road conditions. This scenic route winds through the high Himalayas and is a key section of the Adi Kailash Yatra.

Adi Kailash ( Jolingkong )

Adi Kailash, which is about 5,945 metres tall, is in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. The route to both Kailash Mansarovar and Adi Kailash goes through Dharchula, but they split at Gunji. Adi Kailash is in India, while Kailash Mansarovar is in Tibet, which China claims as its territory. Right now, the Kailash Mansarovar yatra is stopped because of many reasons.

Adi Kailash, in Uttarakhand, is one of the holiest places for Hindus. Earlier, the route had a long path that could only be walked, and it used to take many days. Now, a motorable road to Lipulekh makes the pilgrimage much easier.

The road from Dharchula to Tawaghat can be done by car. The next mountain path, which used to take 8–10 days on foot, can now also be traveled by vehicle. This road makes the pilgrimage easier and also gives jobs to the local people.

The Adi Kailash Yatra, covering a distance of 105 kilometers on foot, is considered challenging and is reminiscent of the Kailash Mansarovar journey. It offers breathtaking natural beauty and immense peace, attracting sages, monks, and pilgrims since ancient times.

The history of Adi Kailash is intertwined with the Himalayas, which are regarded as Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati’s abode. Om Parvat, one of the peaks, bears a naturally inscribed Om symbol, making it a significant spiritual landmark.

The pilgrimage typically commences from Gunji, where pilgrims can witness Om Mountain. Afterward, they proceed to Adi Kailash, encountering many majestic Himalayan peaks along the way.
