  • The most common way to travel from Haridwar to Rishikesh is by road. There are regular Haridwar Bus Stand services and taxis available that operate between the two cities. The journey takes about 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on traffic conditions.

By Train: ( Haridwar to Rishikesh distance )

  • There are also train services available from Haridwar Train station to Rishikesh. The train journey takes around 1 hour, and there are several trains that run between the two cities on a daily basis. However, the train station in Rishikesh is located slightly away from the main city. So you may need to take a taxi or auto-rickshaw to reach your destination.

By Air:  ( Haridwar to Rishikesh distance )

  • The nearest airport to Haridwar and Rishikesh is the Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, which is approximately 22 kilometers away from Rishikesh. There are regular flights from major cities in India to Dehradun, and from there, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to Rishikesh.

By Private Car:  ( Haridwar to Rishikesh distance )

  • If you prefer a more comfortable and convenient mode of transportation. You can also hire a private car or taxi to travel from Haridwar to Rishikesh. This option gives you flexibility in terms of travel time and allows you to enjoy the scenic beauty of the region at your own pace.

By Taxi ( Haridwar to Rishikesh distance )

  • If you want to travel from Haridwar to Rishikesh without worrying about a budget. The best option is to take a private taxi. Haridwar to Rishikesh taxi fare starts at 1,500 rupees, but this rate varies depending on the type of taxi, where you get it from, and whether your hotel arranges the ride.
  • For example, the starting rate for a standard air-conditioned Sedan like Swift Dezire or Etios or a similar car for 1,400-1500 rupees.

Shared Auto Service ( Haridwar to Rishikesh distance )

  • These auto rickshaws are not your ordinary Indian autos. Known as Vikram (their brand name) or tempos, they’re much larger in size and have fixed routes. You’ll find it eight-seaters and open-sided like a rickshaw.
  • You can take a shared auto from Haridwar right up to the Tapovan area of Rishikesh for 80-100 rupees, or hire a whole one for yourself for about 600 rupees. However, the journey might not be as comfortable as you expect. Shared autos are very crowded, and you’ll be sandwiched between all of the other passengers.
  • Even if you take your own vehicle, the bus is still a much better option. The open sides of your vehicle will ensure that you’ll be subjected to plenty of traffic noise.  If you’re looking to save money, it’s a much better idea to take the bus.
  • You can find shared autos near Haridwar Junction railway station on the south side of town. Or, you can cross the bridge over the river and head to the main road in Haridwar. Shared auto is also available from the main road.

Bus Service between Rishikesh & Haridwar

  • Buses are the most economical way to travel between these two cities, with fares only costing 70-80 rupees per person. These buses run frequently, at least every half hour, making them a convenient option for travelers.
  • The only downside to taking the bus is that it drops passengers off in the unappealing center of Rishikesh town, rather than in the traveler’s area around Lakshman Jhula & Ram Jhula.
  • From the bus station, passengers will need to take further transport (such as a shared auto) to reach this area, which is located about five kilometers (3.1 miles) northeast of town.

  • The train is another option for getting from Haridwar to Rishikesh, although there are only a few departures during the day and the trains run slowly, taking more than an hour to get there.

  • There are many trains that go from Haridwar, but most of them are unreserved passenger trains. The tickets for these trains only cost 30 rupees for adults, making them a very convenient option.

1- Rajaji Tiger Reserve
