Flight to Rishikesh India: How to Reach by Air, Road & Rail

Rishikesh have its own airport which is called Jolly Grant, Dehradun Airport,  22 km  distance from Rishikesh by road, require 30-45 minutes road travel through scenic Rajaji National Park from Dehradun Airport to Rishikesh, India.

You can fly by flight to  Rishikesh India ( Dehradun Airport )from cities like Delhi with airlines such as Air India, Spice Jet, and IndiGo. From the airport, take a taxi or bus to Rishikesh. Alternatively, you can fly into Delhi’s international airport and then take a bus to Rishikesh.

How to Reach Rishikesh from Delhi

By Road:
  • Buses: Regular, deluxe, and luxury buses connect Rishikesh to Delhi. Daily buses depart from Kashmir Gate ISBT in the morning and late evening. Rishikesh has two bus stands: the Main Bus Stand and the Yatra Bus Stand. Tickets are available at the UTC Bus Booking Stand opposite Madras Café in Ram Jhula.
  • Driving: Rishikesh connects by National Highway 58. The drive from Delhi takes about 5 to 6 hours. The road is generally in good condition, though some hilly sections might be rough. For a smoother drive, leave Delhi between 4 and 5 in the morning to avoid traffic in towns like Modinagar and Roorkee.
  • Taxi/Jeep: You can also hire a taxi or take a share jeep from Dehradun, which usually leaves early in the morning.
By Rail:
  • Haridwar: The nearest major railway station is in Haridwar, 25 km from Rishikesh. Haridwar is well-connected to cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Lucknow. From Haridwar, you can take a bus or taxi to Rishikesh.
  • Rishikesh Station: Rishikesh has a small railway station with limited train services. It is better to travel via Haridwar for more options.
  • Trains: Some of the best trains to reach Haridwar (and then Rishikesh) include Shatabdi Express, Jan Shatabdi, AC Special Express, and Mussoorie Express. Trains are often less crowded and reasonably priced.

How to Commute Within Rishikesh

By Taxi/Jeep: Taxis are convenient and easy to hire from local tour operators or the taxi stand in Swarg Ashram. Jeeps, available at Lakshman Jhula. Also options of sharing  per-seat basis.

By Auto: Auto-rickshaws, called Vikrams, easy to hire on a shared basis or privately. They aren’t metered, so agree on the fare beforehand. You can find auto-rickshaws everywhere, making them a good option for getting to the bus stand, railway station, or places like Lakshman Jhula.

By Ferry: To reach the eastern bank of the River Ganga, take a ferry from Ram Jhula. It’s a scenic way to cross the river, though you can also walk across Ram Jhula or Lakshman Jhula bridges.

By Walking: Many religious attractions are close to each other, making walking a great way to get around. The terrain can be hilly, but the narrow lanes and close proximity of sites make walking the best way to explore Rishikesh and enjoy its beauty.
