When traveling by road, one typically starts from Badrinath and heads towards Sonprayag, where you can hire a bus or taxi for the onward journey. The main road distance from Badrinath to Sonprayag is 211kms. A second route, while longer and more spacious, covers 224kms via Rudraprayag.

Route 1: Badrinath to Kedarnath via Mandal

  • For convenience and time-saving, helicopter services operate between Phata, Guptkashi, and Kedarnath during peak Yatra season.

Travel from Badrinath to Kedarnath by road

Travel from Badrinath to Kedarnath by road covers approximately 211 kms and typically takes around 7 to 8 hours by bus or taxi. You can catch a bus from Badrinath Bus Stand to Sonprayag early in the morning or choose buses heading towards Rudraprayag or Joshimath to continue your journey.

If you opt for Route 2 via Rudraprayag, it’s important to start your trip early and travel to Rudraprayag first, where numerous buses and taxis operate until evening during the Chardham Yatra season.

Regarding helicopter travel, there is no direct helicopter service from Badrinath to Kedarnath. Helicopter packages typically run from Dehradun/Delhi to Badrinath and Kedarnath combined, not between the two shrines directly.

  • By Road – The full Char Dham Yatra usually takes 10 to 12 days, including travel, accommodation, and meals.
  • By Helicopter – A faster Char Dham trip can be finished in 3 to 5 days with VIP darshan at all four temples.
  • Do Dham Yatra – If you have less time, you can choose a Do Dham Yatra, visiting only Kedarnath and Badrinath in 5 to 7 days.
