Discover Dhoni Village Uttarakhand: Now it is famous, learn how?

Former Indian team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni paid a visit to his ancestral home in Lawali village, now famous as Dhoni village Uttarakhand. It is located in Almora district of Uttarakhand, on Wednesday.

Accompanied by his wife Sakshi Dhoni, Dhoni revisited the place after nearly two decades, having last been there in 2004. Dhoni, who retired from international cricket in August 2020, took this opportunity to reconnect with his roots and reminisce about his family’s history in the picturesque village of Lwali Almora in Uttarakhand.

Former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s recent visit to his ancestral village in Almora after a hiatus of two decades has stirred considerable interest in Uttarakhand.

Despite being appointed as Uttarakhand’s Brand Ambassador by the Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ Government in 2010, Dhoni’s visits to his native state have been infrequent, as he has been residing in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, since childhood.

Dhoni’s most notable visit to Uttarakhand was in 2010 when he tied the knot with Sakshi, a Dehradun native, at Vishranti Resort (now known as Mike’s Forest Club) in Dehradun. However, his recent return to his native village of Lwali in Almora district has reignited interest among state residents and local media alike, marking a significant event after a hiatus of two decades.

Lewali Village Almora

Upon his arrival in Lwali, Dhoni village Uttarakhand received a warm welcome from the residents on Wednesday, accompanied by his wife Sakshi from Nainital.

Engaging in a special puja dedicated to the local deity and his Ista Devta, Dhoni’s visit resonated with the tradition of many people living outside Uttarakhand who occasionally return to their native villages for worship. It was a rare sight for the local villagers to interact with Dhoni, known for his reserved demeanor, yet during his stay, he freely mingled with them, even allowing for selfies.

Conclusion

Staying in Nainital since Wednesday, Dhoni encountered a long traffic jam while returning, a common occurrence in popular tourist destinations like Nainital and Mussoorie on weekends. Despite the traffic delay, Dhoni’s visit has left an indelible mark on the hearts of Uttarakhand residents and serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of reconnecting with one’s roots.
