Discover ancient Char Dham Trek Route: Once taken by Pandavas

If things go as planned, the adventurous Char Dham Trek Route will be able to take the “world’s most ancient” trekking route – the same one that the Pandavas are said to have taken before embarking on their journey to heaven.

Overview: Char Dham Trek Route

Uttarakhand Tourism is helping to revive the 3000-year-old ancient Hindu pilgrimage Yatra route of Char Dham. This is the same route that was taken by the Pandavas as written in the Hindu epic Mahabharata.

8 months ago, a group of 25 individuals decided to embark on an expedition to follow the ancient Char Dham routes. These routes are believed to be around 3,000 years old and used by rishis, munis, as well as the Pandavas. Now, the Uttarakhand government has announced that they are leaning towards opening it up to the public.

If all goes according to plan, the more adventurous Chardham pilgrims will be able to take the “world’s most ancient” trekking route – the same one that the Pandavas are said to have taken before embarking on their journey to heaven. The Chardham trekking route, with two gateways – one from Rishikesh and the other from Vikasnagar – would be opened for pilgrims by June.

Minister said that the trekking routes from Vikasnagar (Dehradun) would lead to Gangotri and Yamunotri, and the route from Rishikesh would have Badrinath and Kedarnath as their destinations.

The four shrines of Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri are believed to be where the Pandavas went to atone for their sins before embarking on their journey to heaven.

The area around Vikasnagar is home to a number of trekking routes that wind through the mountainous tribal region of Jaunsar-Bawar. “The landscape is dotted with relics relating to the Pandavas,” Maharaj said. Pilgrims would be able to visit ancient Hindu temples like Lakhamandal, Lakshagriha (the house of lacquer), and the temples dedicated to Karna and Duryodhan.

Conclusion

The Char Dham Trek or the Chota Char Dham Trek is the most popular pilgrimage route in India. Many people have heard about the Kedarnath Temple, Badrinath Temple, and Yamunotri Temple. The trek to the Chota Char Dham is a tough one, and travelers are advised to start early in the morning for trekking and reach the destination before sunset.
