Wildlife Sanctuary, Binsar

Since this sanctuary is small in size, so you can easily see here leopard, Himalayan bear, wild cat, fox and more than 200 species of birds. If coming to roam Binsar then not forget to go Chitai Golu Devta Temple. Temple is around four km distance from main gate of Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary.

The special thing of this temple is that devotees here instead of sweets offer brass bells. To Golu Devta here letters are written and petitions are placed. Desires of mind are written on one paper and tied with those bells and then devotees offer it.

Bineshwar Mahadev Temple

This is 13th century temple which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Its construction was done by Chand dynasty’s King Kalyan. Temple provides a spiritual atmosphere, if you are coming to Binsar, then once do visit this temple also. Along with other places of Binsar, this place is also worth roaming.

Good time to visit Binsar Valley Uttarakhand

Though here all year tourists keep coming, but April to June months are the best time to roam here. During this time here temperature remains between 10 to 20 degree Celsius. Greenery and pleasant weather give much relief in scorching heat. Along with that those people who want to enjoy snow they can in winters visit this hill station.

Nearest Airport

For Binsar you can by flight reach Pantnagar Airport. Here with Delhi, Mumbai and other cities connecting flights are available. From Pantnagar Airport to Binsar distance is around 152 km. On reaching airport, you can book taxi for Binsar, whose cost will be around two to two and half thousand.

By train also you can for going Binsar reach Kathgodam Railway Station. From Kathgodam Railway Station to Binsar distance is around 119 km. From Delhi to Kathgodam for daily running some trains include Ranikhet Express and Sampark Kranti. Later to reach Binsar you can choose shared taxi or private taxi option.

Binsar Meaning

In Garhwali language, Binsar means new dawn or new morning. Just 33 km away from Almora, Binsar is a very peaceful and beautiful place. Surrounded by deodar forests, Binsar is situated at an altitude of about 2,200 meters above sea level.

Binsar Valley Almora is absolutely the right place for such travelers who want to spend their weekend in a peaceful and beautiful place. By the way, if your work from home is still going on, then this place is best according to that also.

Binsar is situated about 33 km from Almora. This region once used to be the capital of (Chand) medieval Raghuvanshi Rajputs, who ruled in Kumaon until the arrival of the British. ‘Binsar’ is a Garhwali word, whose meaning is ‘new dawn’.

It is surrounded by deodar forests, this entire region has now become a wildlife sanctuary. From here situated ‘Zero Point’, Himalayan peaks like Kedarnath, Chaukhamba, Nanda Devi, Panchachuli, Trishul, etc. can be seen.

Where else to roam – Binsar Mahadev

Surrounded by dense deodar forests, here there is also a temple of Mahadev, which is known by the name ‘Binsar Mahadev’. Dedicated to Lord Bholenath, this temple is among the holy places of Hindus.

Here in the month of June every year a Mahayagna is organized, in which to participate thousands of devotees travel all the way here. This temple is situated about 20 km from Ranikhet. Whereas from Almora to reach Binsar Mahadev you will have to cover about 65 km distance.

Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary

Binsar is a wildlife sanctuary, which is spread in about 49.59 square km. In the forest there is so much peace that you can hear in it the chirping of various birds. In this sanctuary leopard, goral, wild cat, bear, fox, barking deer and musk deer like many more animals and birds can be seen. By the way, in this forest you can also find Uttarakhand’s national bird, Monal.

Zero Point

By exploring Binsar on foot only you can see and feel its beauty. Zero Point is such a place here from where entire Binsar is visible. Meaning, from here you can capture the beautiful picture of this place in eyes and in camera. Far and wide, the greenery of Binsar forests captivates the heart. From here sunrise and sunset views look extremely magnificent.

Golu Devta Temple

Among places to see in Binsar, Golu Devta’s temple is also included, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Tourists coming here definitely bow in this temple. This temple is also called Temple of Bells because in this temple many bells are hanging. People, after making vows, tie bells in the temple.

After Binsar excursion, if you wish, then the nearby situated ‘Ranikhet’s’ delightful atmosphere can be enjoyed. Ranikhet, situated in Almora, is a very beautiful hill station.

This whole hilly region is surrounded by deodar and oak trees. From here also you can easily see many peaks of Himalaya.

This whole mountainous area is filled with natural peace. On coming here you will be able to experience abundant mental and spiritual peace. Ranikhet is considered a good place for playing ‘golf’.

How to Reach?

  • From Dehradun to Binsar distance is 370 km and from Nainital 95 km. From Binsar the nearest railway station is Kathgodam. From Kathgodam to Binsar distance is 105 km. From Kathgodam first by government bus or taxi one has to go Almora. From there taxis to go Binsar are available. From Almora to Binsar distance is 35 km.

  • Apart from this, nearest airport is Pantnagar. From Pantnagar to Binsar distance is about 140 km. From there you can by bus or taxi book and reach Binsar. Apart from this, from Delhi to Kathgodam and Almora buses are also easily available.

When to Go Binsar Valley Uttarakhand ?

By the way, in mountains to roam the best season is summers, when here the weather is very pleasant. Sunlight remains bright and sky also remains clear. By which you can see beautiful view of Himalaya and also capture in camera. In summers in the weather here the forests get decorated with Buransh flowers. Which add extra charm in the beauty of this place.
