  • The BAPS Hindu Mandir is a new Hindu temple being constructed by the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
  • It is a quite large, standing at 108 feet tall, 262 feet long, and 180 feet wide.
  • The temple is built on a 27-acre piece of land in Abu Mureikhah, near Al Rahba, close to the Dubai-Abu Dhabi Sheikh Zayed Highway.  it is the first traditional Hindu stone temple in the Middle East.

  • Before delving into our exploration, let’s understand the essence of BAPS temples – a socio-spiritual Hindu faith rooted in the Vedas.
  • It was  founded by Bhagwan Swaminarayan in the late 18th century and formally established in 1907. The BAPS aims to address spiritual, moral, and social challenges through practical spirituality.
  • With a global network spanning over 3,850 centers, BAPS has received international recognition and affiliations with esteemed organizations like the United Nations.

The BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir Dubai:

  • Construction of the mandir started in December 2019 on a 27-acre plot near Abu Mureikhah, close to Al Rahba off the Dubai–Abu Dhabi Sheikh Zayed Highway.
  • To build it, they brought tons of durable pink sandstone from northern Rajasthan to withstand the hot temperatures of the UAE. They also used marble from Italy and fly ash in the foundation’s concrete mix to reduce carbon footprint.
  • This mandir is the first traditional Hindu temple to undergo complete digital modeling and seismic simulation.

Symbolism and Significance:

The seven spires that adorn the temple symbolize gratitude towards the unity of the seven emirates of the UAE, echoing the harmonious relationship between India and the UAE. Additionally, these spires pay homage to seven important deities, emphasizing the interconnectedness of cultures and religions.
