4-Day Visit: Rishikesh & Nearby Places
Stay in Rishikesh and explore a little further each day. This four-day plan brings together old pilgrimage streets, the meeting of two sacred rivers, a forest safari and the quieter cave-and-ashram side of the valley. It is planned in the style of a local guide: time to look around, hear the stories and enjoy the journey without rushing from one stop to another.

Old city & sacred river
Haridwar Kumbh Mela Walking Tour & Heritage
Begin in Haridwar, where the Ganga leaves the Himalayan foothills and enters the plains. Walk through older lanes and market streets, notice small shrines beside the shops, and make your way towards the ghats. Around Har Ki Pauri, the city’s faith is part of daily life: bells, offerings, pilgrims and river rituals.
When the Kumbh Mela is taking place, the walk can focus on the festival’s gathering spaces, traditions and the way the city welcomes pilgrims. Outside Mela dates, the day works as a Haridwar heritage walk through the ghats, bazaars and temple neighbourhoods. If timing allows, stay for the evening Ganga Aarti and watch the lamps glow over the river.

River confluence & quiet cave
Devprayag Day Excursion with Vasishta Cave
Take the hill road towards Devprayag, a town best understood by standing above the meeting of the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda rivers. Their waters come together here and continue downstream as the Ganga. From the viewpoints, the river colours and old hillside settlement make a memorable scene. Visit the Raghunathji Temple area if open, and allow time to walk carefully through the steep lanes.
On the return journey, include Vasishta Cave (also written Vashishta Gufa), a peaceful riverside place associated with meditation and local spiritual tradition. Keep the visit unhurried and quiet; access, road conditions and time available may affect the order of stops. This is a day for river views and stories, not a packed sightseeing list.

Wild forest & evening prayer
Rajaji Jeep Safari, Triveni Ghat Heritage Walk & Ganga Aarti
Start early for a permitted jeep safari in Rajaji National Park, a Shivalik landscape known for its forests, birdlife and Asian elephants. The forest is the main experience: listen for bird calls, watch the changing woodland and keep your eyes open for wildlife. Sightings are never guaranteed, and safari routes, entry gates and operating dates depend on park rules and current conditions, so confirm the booking before travel.
Return to Rishikesh for a walk around Triveni Ghat and its nearby streets. As evening approaches, find a respectful place to observe the Ganga Aarti. The chanting, lamps and riverfront atmosphere offer a different feeling from the morning forest—two distinct sides of the region in one day.

Caves, forest paths & music history
Tat Wale Cave, Mauni Baba Cave & Beatles Ashram Hike
Spend the final day exploring a quieter side of Rishikesh. Visit Tat Wale Cave and Mauni Baba Cave where access is available and local guidance confirms the route. These places are associated with meditation and the area’s spiritual life; approach them respectfully, keep voices low and follow local instructions. Cave access and walking conditions can vary, so do not assume every site is open each day.
Continue with a walk to the Beatles Ashram area, associated with the former Chaurasi Kutia ashram complex. Among the forest paths and meditation huts, learn about the ashram’s place in Rishikesh’s international music and spiritual history. Check current entry arrangements and closing times before setting out, and leave enough time to return before dark.
