Gangotri to Tapovan Trail is a 6 days long Gaumukh Tapovan Trek from Rishikesh to Tapovan via Harshil, Gangotri, Gomukh, Gangotri glacier, Shivalinga Peak & Himalayas to the origin of the Ganges. One can be marveled at the beauty of the Gangotri glacier & Himalayas which constitute the origin of the holy Ganges River.
During these 6 days Gomukh Gangotri, a high-altitude spiritual adventure tour will take you up to the source of the Ganges Gaumukh to Tapovan, which is the home of the holy peak, Shivalinga inside the Gangotri National Park, Uttarakhand. You will have always the opportunity to interact with the locals and culture of the Harshil village, where you meet the oldest ethnic Buddhist community, Buddhist Temple, Hindu temples & many other attractions as well.

This sacred journey includes some of the famous & holy sites of the area of Harshil village. The trail from Rishikesh to Tapovan is the home of thousands of Hindu & Buddhist ascetics, are living in natural caves & man-made huts, is quite insightful for travelers who seek to have a meeting with such Himalayan ascetics.
Gangotri is the source of the Ganga River is located in Uttarakhand state. It is a part of Char Dham Yatra (Hindu Pilgrimage). According to Hindu mythology, Vishnu Temple and Brahmakund are here. The source of the Ganges River is the Gangotri glacier (the second largest glacier in Asia) is estimated to be at an altitude of 4,225 meters. The Char Dham Yatra takes place between April and November months.
In the morning, after breakfast in the hotel, drive in a private car for the Harshil Town which is about 30 km before form Gangotri & 250 km from Rishikesh, after arrival check in hotel, later in the evening explore Harshil Village, dinner & overnight.
Harshil is very famous for its natural & scenic beauty & apple orchard. In Harshil there is a village, known as Bagori, where Himalayan ethnic people, locally called Bhutiya are living in the village.
There is a wooden Buddhist temple, architecturally very rich, many foreign tourists travel to this village only to see this Himalayan Buddha Temple. Apart from the Buddhist Temple, at a few distances, there is the winter seat of mother Ganges, which is known as Mukhba & Cholmi, where there are two important temples of Shiva, Kalp Kedar & Panchmukhi Mahadev Temple.
Early morning breakfast at hotel, drive to Gangotri (3048 Mts/10000 Ft)- (30km / 1 hr), firstly pay homage to Gangotri Temple and with trekking guide, you start trekking to Bhojwassa via Chirbasa (3792mt).
Gangotri to Gaumukh trek Distance- You trek (13 Kms Trek/5-6 Hrs) the entire day along the gurgling Bhagirathi River up to Chirwassa ( Chirbasa). Beyond Chirbasa the trek route turns into really remote and without vegetation. Geographically it is considered to be an Arctic Tundra by some trekkers. You continue trekking up to Bhojwassa through the thick forest. After arrival at Bhojwassa, check-in at the GMVN guest house. Dinner & lights off.
After breakfast at Bhojwassa, trek sets out to Gomukh (3890mt), the origin of the mother Ganges River, discover the area of Gomukh, and resume trek up to Tapovan (4463 mts / 14640 ft), one of the highest & beautiful alpine meadows of Himalaya.
The trek from Gomukh to Tapovan is difficult because of steep climbing but as you go higher the view gets clearer. Dinner and lights off enjoy the camping stay at Tapovan.
Today, after breakfast, you trek Bhojwassa back (4340 mts/14235 feet /Trek 4-5 hrs), where you get free time to explore yourself the scenic surroundings of the Himalayas and roll through the scenic pathways. After dinner, lights off & retire for the rest of the night in camp or GMVN guest house.
In the morning, breakfast, you start trekking to Gangotri back and you need to descend (6 km / 4-5 hr). So, it will take about to 4 hours, after reaching Gangotri, transfer to hotel in a private transport (30 km), after arrival, have dinner and retire for the rest of night in the Hotel, Harshil.
Breakfast at Hotel and proceed for the Rishikesh in private transport through Himalayan curvy roads to conclude the six-day-long journey of Gomukh Trek.
