On the occasion of Basant Panchami, the palanquin of Lord Bharat Ji Maharaj is brought here and given a bath.<\/p>\n

Throughout the year, crowds of devotees from outside keep gathering here. Along with this, from the mountainous region, the divine palanquins are also brought here for bathing.<\/p>\n

According to educationist Vanshidhar Pokhriyal, at Triveni Ghat there is the confluence of the holy rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati. That is why this place was named Triveni.<\/p>\n

From the mountainous Himalayan region, the Ganga reaches Rishikesh and then moves towards the plains. On its bank is the pond of Yamuna Ji, which is Rishi Kund, also called Surya Kund. What people now call Saraswati Nala, there in visible form flows the current of Saraswati.<\/p>\n

The Triveni Ghat Aarti is the most captivating highlight of this sacred place. As dusk settles in, the ghats come alive with the resonance of bells and the scent of incense, setting the stage for the enchanting ceremony.<\/p>\n

On this very bank of the Ganga, Ramya Rishi performed penance. According to the scriptures, Lord Narayan gave darshan here to the sage in the form of Kubja Mark, that is, a bent branch of a mango tree.<\/p>\n

The ancient name of this city is also Kubjamark. This is the land of Hrishikesh Narayan, that is, Lord Bharat, therefore its name became Hrishikesh and later Rishikesh.<\/p>\n

This place, having so much mythological importance, is recorded on the tourism map only as a ghat. In all the literature and documents of the tourism department, nowhere is there a detailed mention about the significance of the three rivers.<\/p>\n

Mahatma Gandhi and Triveni Ghat<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The pilgrimage city Rishikesh<\/strong> had a leading role<\/strong> in the freedom movement<\/strong>. The witness is Gandhi Pillar located at Triveni Ghat with<\/strong>\u00a0signatures<\/strong> of Bapu<\/strong> engraved on it.<\/p>\n

During his Almora journey<\/strong>, Mahatma Gandhi<\/strong> gave these signatures<\/strong> on a stone<\/strong> to the revolutionaries from Rishikesh<\/strong> who went there to meet him . This stone<\/strong> was placed on top of the Gandhi Pillar<\/strong>, which even today reminds people of Bapu<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

During his Uttarakhand journey<\/strong>, when Mahatma Gandhi<\/strong> visited to Almora<\/strong>, the freedom fighters from Rishikesh<\/strong> \u2013 Brahmachari Harijeevan<\/strong>, Udiya Baba<\/strong>, Swami Sadanand<\/strong>, Swami Adwetanand<\/strong>, and others \u2013 went to meet him.<\/p>\n

At that time, they all requested Bapu<\/strong> to visit Rishikesh<\/strong>. But, due to lack of time<\/strong>, Bapu<\/strong> could not do so and promised the freedom fighters <\/b>that he would visit Rishikesh<\/strong> whenever he got time. Therefore, the freedom fighters<\/strong>\u00a0brought back Bapu\u2019s signatures<\/strong> on a stone<\/strong> to Rishikesh<\/strong>. This very stone<\/strong> has been placed on top of the Gandhi Pillar<\/strong> at Triveni Ghat<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

He further explains that in ancient times, the Kumbh bath used to take place at Devprayag and at this Triveni Ghat in Rishikesh. Due to lack of land, the bathing at Devprayag was stopped, and similarly, because of limited space in Rishikesh, the Kumbh bath now takes place in Haridwar.<\/p>\n

He further explains that in the Skanda Purana, Vishnu Purana, and the Bhagavad Gita, bathing here holds mythological significance. Whoever bathes here has their sins washed away.<\/p>\n

The origin of Rishi Kund, also called Surya Kund, located near Triveni Ghat, is also considered the result of a sage\u2019s penance.<\/p>\n

According to scriptures and beliefs, a sage named Galiv performed worship and penance of Lord Surya Dev here. Lord Surya appeared here and manifested Yamuna Ji permanently at this place. The source of Yamuna Ji is located here.<\/p>\n

The water of this kund always remains clear in color and cool in temperature. In any season, its water never becomes muddy. Whenever construction of buildings takes place nearby, the source of Yamuna emerges just a few meters below.<\/p>\n
