Along with Kedarnath, there are five Shiva temples here.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"227\" data-end=\"665\">These five Shiva temples are collectively called 5 Kedar in Uttarakhand. The 5 Kedar is described in the <strong data-start=\"524\" data-end=\"541\">Skanda Purana<\/strong> in the Kedarkhand section. Amid the <strong data-start=\"1165\" data-end=\"1194\">beautiful Himalayan peaks<\/strong>, you can reach these temples <strong data-start=\"1224\" data-end=\"1235\">on foot<\/strong>, passing through <strong data-start=\"1253\" data-end=\"1270\">dense forests<\/strong> at times and <strong data-start=\"1284\" data-end=\"1310\">vast meadows (<a href=\"https:\/\/rishikeshdaytour.com\/blogoldsite\/bugyals-in-uttarakhand\/\">bugyals<\/a>)<\/strong> at other times. Searching for Lord Shiva, the Pandavas reached the Himalayas, but <strong data-start=\"1740\" data-end=\"1790\">Shankar Ji did not want to give them a darshan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1430\" data-end=\"2453\">So, meditating inwardly, he took <strong data-start=\"1825\" data-end=\"1851\">residence in Kedarnath<\/strong>. When the Pandavas reached Kedarnath, Lord Shiva assumed the <strong data-start=\"1913\" data-end=\"1943\">form of a buffalo (Mahish)<\/strong>. When recognized by the Pandavas, Shiva partially submerged into the ground; <strong data-start=\"2021\" data-end=\"2072\">Bhima held the upper part of the buffalo\u2019s back<\/strong>, and then Shiva gave them darshan, freeing them from their sins.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1430\" data-end=\"2453\">Since then, the <strong data-start=\"2154\" data-end=\"2172\">buffalo\u2019s back<\/strong> is worshipped in the form of a <strong data-start=\"2204\" data-end=\"2226\">lingam-like figure<\/strong> at Kedarnath Temple. To reach Kedarnath, <strong data-start=\"2639\" data-end=\"2652\">Rishikesh<\/strong> is the nearest railway station. Inside the temple, a <strong data-start=\"2950\" data-end=\"2980\">serpent-shaped Shiva Linga<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"2985\" data-end=\"3003\">Ardhanarishwar<\/strong> (half Shiva and half Parvati) are installed. From <strong data-start=\"3309\" data-end=\"3319\">Chopta<\/strong>, a <strong data-start=\"3323\" data-end=\"3343\">3 km steep climb<\/strong> leads to Tungnath. On the way, one can see <strong data-start=\"3387\" data-end=\"3408\">beautiful bugyals<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"3413\" data-end=\"3445\">Buransh (rhododendron) trees<\/strong>, with <strong data-start=\"3452\" data-end=\"3473\">Chandrashila peak<\/strong> just above the temple. Rudranath is located in <strong data-start=\"3841\" data-end=\"3861\">Chamoli district<\/strong>. From here, <strong data-start=\"3874\" data-end=\"3906\">Nanda Devi and Trishul peaks<\/strong> can be seen very closely. It is located in the <strong data-start=\"4164\" data-end=\"4200\">Urgam Valley of Chamoli district<\/strong>. This is the <strong data-start=\"4214\" data-end=\"4261\">only Panch Kedar temple at a lower altitude<\/strong> and its <strong data-start=\"4270\" data-end=\"4311\">gates remain open throughout the year<\/strong>, unlike other Kedar temples which are closed in winter.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4045\" data-end=\"4620\">During the <strong data-start=\"4379\" data-end=\"4397\">month of Sawan<\/strong>, the darshan here is considered highly auspicious. Among these, <strong data-start=\"157\" data-end=\"170\">Kedarnath<\/strong>, the <strong data-start=\"176\" data-end=\"205\">second Kedar Madmaheshwar<\/strong>, the <strong data-start=\"211\" data-end=\"235\">third Kedar Tungnath<\/strong>, and the <strong data-start=\"245\" data-end=\"271\">fourth Kedar Rudranath<\/strong> remain <strong data-start=\"279\" data-end=\"303\">closed during winter<\/strong>. The <strong data-start=\"309\" data-end=\"336\">fifth Kedar, Kalpeshwar<\/strong>, is the <strong data-start=\"345\" data-end=\"397\">only temple open for darshan throughout the year<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"402\" data-end=\"796\">Among them, <strong data-start=\"414\" data-end=\"446\">Kedarnath is the main shrine<\/strong>, which is one of the <strong data-start=\"468\" data-end=\"506\">famous Char Dhams of the Himalayas<\/strong>. At Kedarnath, <strong data-start=\"522\" data-end=\"601\">Lord Shiva is worshipped in the form of a bull (V\u1e5bishabha) back-shaped idol<\/strong>.
