Discover Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib Ropeway in Uttarakhand<\/h1>\n

New Ropeway Project<\/strong>: A 12.4 km ropeway<\/strong> from Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib Ji<\/strong> in Uttarakhand<\/strong> has been approved<\/strong>. The project aims to provide easier access<\/strong> for pilgrims and tourists<\/strong>, improve connectivity<\/strong>, and boost regional tourism<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In a bid to enhance connectivity<\/strong> and boost tourism<\/strong>, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA)<\/strong>, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi<\/strong>, has approved the construction of a 12.4 km ropeway<\/strong> project linking Govindghat<\/strong> to Hemkund Sahib Ji<\/strong> in Uttarakhand<\/strong>, according to an official release from the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways<\/strong>. The project, set to be developed under the Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT)<\/strong> model, is estimated to cost INR 2,730.13 crore<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

At the Winter Tourism Program<\/strong> in Harsil, Uttarakhand<\/strong>,<\/a> PM Modi<\/strong> emphasized, “Our double-engine government<\/strong> is working together to make Uttarakhand<\/strong> a developed state. The Chardham-All Weather Road<\/strong>, modern expressway<\/strong>, expansion of railway<\/strong>, aircraft<\/strong>, and helicopter services<\/strong> have contributed to Uttarakhand’s rapid development in the last 10 years.<\/p>\n

On March 5<\/strong>, the central government<\/strong> made significant decisions for Uttarakhand, including the approval of the Kedarnath Ropeway Project<\/strong> and the Hemkund Ropeway Project<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Once the Kedarnath ropeway<\/strong> is built, the journey, which currently takes eight to nine hours, will be completed in about 30 minutes<\/strong>, making the journey easier for the elderly, children, and women. These ropeway projects<\/strong> will involve investments worth thousands of crores, and I congratulate the entire country, including Uttarakhand, for these initiatives.”<\/p>\n

Ropeway from Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib<\/strong><\/h3>\n


Currently, reaching Hemkund Sahib Ji<\/strong> involves a challenging 21 km uphill trek<\/strong> from Govindghat<\/strong>, which can only be done on foot, by pony, or in a palanquin. The new ropeway<\/strong> aims to provide convenience<\/strong> for pilgrims<\/strong> and tourists<\/strong> visiting both Hemkund Sahib Ji and the Valley of Flowers<\/strong>.<\/a><\/p>\n

It will ensure reliable, all-weather connectivity<\/strong> between Govindghat<\/strong> and Hemkund Sahib Ji<\/strong>, making the pilgrimage more accessible to a wider audience.<\/p>\n

The ropeway will be developed as a public-private partnership<\/strong>, using two types of gondola technology<\/strong>. The first section (10.55 km) from Govindghat to Ghangaria<\/strong> will use Monocable Detachable Gondola (MDG)<\/strong> technology, while the second section (1.85 km) from Ghangaria to Hemkund Sahib Ji<\/strong> will feature the more advanced Tricable Detachable Gondola (3S)<\/strong> system.<\/p>\n

The ropeway will have a design capacity of 1,100 passengers per hour<\/strong> in each direction, with a daily capacity of 11,000 passengers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The project is expected to generate significant employment<\/strong> during both its construction and ongoing operation, while boosting tourism-related industries<\/strong>, such as hospitality<\/strong>, food services<\/strong>, and travel<\/strong>, benefiting the region year-round.<\/p>\n
