I decided to take the <strong>Tamil Nadu route<\/strong> because it was the one shown on the map. Near the parking area, I met a man who helped with the parking. Later, I found out he wanted me to <strong>rent his coracle<\/strong> for a water ride. He guided me to the <strong>ticket counter<\/strong>, where I bought tickets for <strong>INR 750<\/strong>. After putting on the <strong>life jackets<\/strong>, I enjoyed the <strong>coracle ride<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30301\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30301\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-30301\" src=\"http:\/\/rishikeshdaytour.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Downstream-of-the-river.jpg\" alt=\"Downstream of the river\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30301\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Downstream of the river<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The place was extremely <strong>filthy<\/strong> since it was just after the rainy season. The <strong>shrubs<\/strong> and <strong>trees<\/strong> were covered in <strong>clothes<\/strong>, <strong>plastics<\/strong>, and all kinds of waste. It looked more like a <strong>dump yard<\/strong> than a beautiful river, and it felt like riding through a <strong>gutter<\/strong> in a <strong>coracle<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>There were other coracles carrying <strong>water<\/strong>, <strong>soft drinks<\/strong>, and other refreshments. Tourists would buy these items and then conveniently toss the <strong>plastic<\/strong> wrappers into the river. The <strong>Karnataka<\/strong> and <strong>Tamil Nadu<\/strong> coracle operators wear different colored <strong>uniforms<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30297\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30297\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-30297\" src=\"http:\/\/rishikeshdaytour.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Coracle-at-Hogenakkal-Falls.jpg\" alt=\"Coracle at Hogenakkal Falls\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30297\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Coracle at Hogenakkal Falls<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The <strong>coracle man<\/strong> tricked me by claiming they had a <strong>hidden waterfall<\/strong> in the forest, supposedly much better than the famous one. He charged me <strong>INR 700<\/strong> for it. He stopped near a sandy bank and made me walk through the forest for about <strong>15 minutes<\/strong>. Eventually, we reached a clearing with a <strong>washed-out concrete bridge<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30294\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30294\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-30294\" src=\"http:\/\/rishikeshdaytour.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Shri-Mahadeshwara-temple-Male-Mahadeshwara-hills-MM-Hills.jpg\" alt=\"Shri Mahadeshwara temple Male Mahadeshwara hills MM Hills\" width=\"1000\" height=\"666\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30294\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Shri Mahadeshwara temple Male Mahadeshwara hills MM Hills<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After crossing it, I found a <strong>viewing tower<\/strong>. There were several small <strong>waterfalls<\/strong>, all coming together in one spot. While it provided a decent view, it definitely wasn\u2019t worth <strong>INR 700<\/strong>. On the way back, the coracle man explained that I had entered the <strong>Karnataka side<\/strong> of the forest illegally. He had to <strong>bribe a forest officer<\/strong> to let me pass through. It was a <strong>foolish<\/strong> decision. After spending a few minutes there, I returned to the original <strong>river area<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Inside the <strong>forest area<\/strong>, there are vendors selling <strong>fried fish<\/strong> and other food items. You can eat them if you like, but they aren\u2019t very <strong>hygienic<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30304\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30304\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-30304\" src=\"http:\/\/rishikeshdaytour.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Local-Fish-Seller-at-Hogenakkal-Falls.jpg\" alt=\"Local Fish Seller at Hogenakkal Falls\" width=\"1000\" height=\"666\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30304\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Local Fish Seller at Hogenakkal Falls<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I then went to the <strong>main waterfall<\/strong>, which was located through a corridor of huge, towering rocks. There were small waterfalls along the way, and some people stood inside the <strong>coracle<\/strong>, getting drenched by the water. Sadly, there were also people <strong>taking photos<\/strong> and <strong>videos<\/strong> of women who were getting wet. So, I would recommend thinking carefully before getting involved in situations like that. But of course, that\u2019s just my <strong>personal opinion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The water flows with full force, making the <strong>coracle ride<\/strong> potentially rough. Be prepared, as other coracles may come and <strong>ram into yours<\/strong>, so hold on tight.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30299\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30299\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-30299\" src=\"http:\/\/rishikeshdaytour.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Riding-Point-at-Hogenakkal-Falls.jpg\" alt=\"Riding Point at Hogenakkal Falls\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30299\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Riding Point at Hogenakkal Falls<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On the way back from the <strong>main waterfall<\/strong>, the ride stops at a point where you need to get off. The <strong>coracle guy<\/strong> will then carry the coracle to the other side of the river. The area is very <strong>slippery<\/strong> and <strong>crowded<\/strong>, so be cautious when climbing up the stairs.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30302\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30302\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-30302\" src=\"http:\/\/rishikeshdaytour.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Hogenakkal-Falls-in-Tamil-Nadu.jpg\" alt=\"Hogenakkal Falls in Tamil Nadu\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30302\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hogenakkal Falls in Tamil Nadu<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On the other side, there was a lot of <strong>coracle traffic<\/strong>, so you may need to wait for your turn. At the end of the ride, there\u2019s a spot where they offer <strong>oil massages<\/strong>, but the smell was a bit unpleasant. They also charge extra to remove the oil from your skin.<\/p>\n<p>There are <strong>eateries<\/strong> around selling <strong>rice<\/strong> and <strong>fried fish<\/strong> dipped in sauce. You can also bring your own food and cook at the designated areas provided. I ate at the <strong>Government guest house<\/strong>, where the <strong>food<\/strong> was simple but <strong>expensive<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>I didn\u2019t see any <strong>washrooms<\/strong> in the area, so I\u2019m unsure about the availability of public toilets.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30298\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30298\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-30298\" src=\"http:\/\/rishikeshdaytour.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Crocodile-in-the-river.jpg\" alt=\"Crocodile in the river\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30298\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Crocodile in the river<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Please remember that there are <strong>crocodiles<\/strong> in the water, and they can cause serious harm if you dip your hand into the water. Always wear your <strong>life jacket<\/strong> and limit your movements inside the <strong>coracle<\/strong> to avoid any accidents. Also, carry your own food for the journey, as there aren&#8217;t many decent eateries on the way.<\/p>\n<p>After lunch, I headed to the <strong>crocodile rehabilitation park<\/strong>, paid a small fee, and entered. The park cares for <strong>injured crocodiles<\/strong> whose limbs or tails have been damaged, making survival in the wild impossible. I also bought some <strong>organic products<\/strong> from the shop inside the center.
