Often referred to as the “Niagara Falls of India<\/strong>,” it is famous for its bathing areas<\/strong> and hide boat rides<\/strong>, making it a popular tourist destination<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Coracle Ride Price: Hogenakkal Falls Bangalore<\/span><\/h3>\n

The Coracle\u00a0ride<\/strong> costs 750 INR<\/strong>, but the place is definitely worth a visit for its stunning views and unique experiences.<\/p>\n

The waterfalls<\/strong> can be accessed from both the Tamil Nadu side<\/strong> and the Karnataka side<\/strong>. I decided to take the Tamil Nadu route<\/strong> because it was the one shown on the map. The journey is along ghat roads<\/strong> with winding paths<\/strong>, offering stunning views<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Hogenakkal Waterfalls distance from Bangalore<\/h3>\n

It\u2019s a 3-hour drive, <\/strong>\u00a0approx. 130 km by road from Bangalore<\/strong>, and I reached the location by 10:00 am<\/strong>, where the heat was intense. Near the parking area, I met a man who helped with the parking. Later, I found out he wanted me to rent his coracle<\/strong> for a water ride. He guided me to the ticket counter<\/strong>, where I bought tickets for INR 750<\/strong>. After putting on the life jackets<\/strong>, I enjoyed the coracle ride<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The place was extremely filthy<\/strong> since it was just after the rainy season. The shrubs<\/strong> and trees<\/strong> were covered in clothes<\/strong>, plastics<\/strong>, and all kinds of waste. It looked more like a dump yard<\/strong> than a beautiful river, and it felt like riding through a gutter<\/strong> in a coracle<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

There were other coracles carrying water<\/strong>, soft drinks<\/strong>, and other refreshments. Tourists would buy these items and then conveniently toss the plastic<\/strong> wrappers into the river. The Karnataka<\/strong> and Tamil Nadu<\/strong> coracle operators wear different colored uniforms<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The coracle man<\/strong> tricked me by claiming they had a hidden waterfall<\/strong> in the forest, supposedly much better than the famous one. He charged me INR 700<\/strong> for it. He stopped near a sandy bank and made me walk through the forest for about 15 minutes<\/strong>. Eventually, we reached a clearing with a washed-out concrete bridge<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

After crossing it, I found a viewing tower<\/strong>. There were several small waterfalls<\/strong>, all coming together in one spot. While it provided a decent view, it definitely wasn\u2019t worth INR 700<\/strong>. On the way back, the coracle man explained that I had entered the Karnataka side<\/strong> of the forest illegally. He had to bribe a forest officer<\/strong> to let me pass through. It was a foolish<\/strong> decision. After spending a few minutes there, I returned to the original river area<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Inside the forest area<\/strong>, there are vendors selling fried fish<\/strong> and other food items. You can eat them if you like, but they aren\u2019t very hygienic<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

I then went to the main waterfall<\/strong>, which was located through a corridor of huge, towering rocks. There were small waterfalls along the way, and some people stood inside the coracle<\/strong>, getting drenched by the water. Sadly, there were also people taking photos<\/strong> and videos<\/strong> of women who were getting wet. So, I would recommend thinking carefully before getting involved in situations like that. But of course, that\u2019s just my personal opinion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The water flows with full force, making the coracle ride<\/strong> potentially rough. Be prepared, as other coracles may come and ram into yours<\/strong>, so hold on tight.<\/p>\n

On the way back from the main waterfall<\/strong>, the ride stops at a point where you need to get off. The coracle guy<\/strong> will then carry the coracle to the other side of the river. The area is very slippery<\/strong> and crowded<\/strong>, so be cautious when climbing up the stairs.<\/p>\n

On the other side, there was a lot of coracle traffic<\/strong>, so you may need to wait for your turn. At the end of the ride, there\u2019s a spot where they offer oil massages<\/strong>, but the smell was a bit unpleasant. They also charge extra to remove the oil from your skin.<\/p>\n

There are eateries<\/strong> around selling rice<\/strong> and fried fish<\/strong> dipped in sauce. You can also bring your own food and cook at the designated areas provided. I ate at the Government guest house<\/strong>, where the food<\/strong> was simple but expensive<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t see any washrooms<\/strong> in the area, so I\u2019m unsure about the availability of public toilets.<\/p>\n

Please remember that there are crocodiles<\/strong> in the water, and they can cause serious harm if you dip your hand into the water. Always wear your life jacket<\/strong> and limit your movements inside the coracle<\/strong> to avoid any accidents. Also, carry your own food for the journey, as there aren’t many decent eateries on the way.<\/p>\n

After lunch, I headed to the crocodile rehabilitation park<\/strong>, paid a small fee, and entered. The park cares for injured crocodiles<\/strong> whose limbs or tails have been damaged, making survival in the wild impossible. I also bought some organic products<\/strong> from the shop inside the center. Overall, it was a nice place to visit.<\/p>\n
