Dwarpitha and Mangal Aarati (5 a.m.)<\/strong><\/h4>\nThe temple doors open early morning with five special sevayats<\/strong> verifying the seal<\/strong> from the previous night. After opening, the Mangal Aarati<\/strong> (morning prayer) is performed.<\/p>\nMailam (6 a.m.)<\/strong><\/h4>\n“Mailam” means changing<\/strong> or removing clothes and flowers<\/strong>. The sevaks change the deities\u2019 dresses, flowers, and Tulasi leaves<\/strong> from the night before. The deities then wear fresh clothes called Tadap<\/strong> and Uttariya<\/strong>.<\/p>\nAbakash (6 a.m. to 6:30 a.m.)<\/strong><\/h4>\nThis is the time for purification rituals<\/strong>, such as brushing teeth and bathing<\/strong> the deities. The temple astrologer<\/strong> reads the tithi<\/strong> (day and date) and other details to decide the day\u2019s rituals.<\/p>\nMailam (6:45 a.m.)<\/strong><\/h4>\nThe deities again change their Tadap and Uttariya<\/strong> for another set of clothes. A sevak<\/strong> called “Akhanda Mekap” lights a lamp<\/strong> in the sanctum that burns until the deities rest at night.<\/p>\nSahanamela (7 a.m. to 8 a.m.)<\/strong><\/h4>\nThis is not a ritual but a time for pilgrims<\/strong> to visit the inner sanctum (Ratnavedi)<\/strong> for a free Darshan<\/strong>. This can be seen from a spot called Bhitara Katha<\/strong>. The deities are also decorated with gold<\/strong> and precious stones<\/strong> based on the occasion.<\/p>\nRosha Homa, Surya Puja, and Dwarapal (8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.)<\/strong><\/h4>\nWhile some sevaks dress the deities, the Pujapandas<\/strong> perform two rituals:<\/p>\n\n- Rosha Homa<\/strong> (fire sacrifice) in the temple kitchen<\/strong>.<\/li>\n

The puja is done in a simple way<\/strong> using only five rituals called Pancha Upachar<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Sakala Dhupa (Morning Food Offering, 10 a.m.)<\/strong><\/h4>\nThree Pujapandas perform the puja using 16 Upachars (Sodasha Upachar)<\/strong>. They worship the main deities, Shri Balabhadra, Subhadra, and Lord Jagannath<\/strong>, along with Sri Devi, Bhudevi, and Sudarshan<\/strong>.

The food offerings<\/strong> are more than in the morning.
