It was <\/span>snow everywhere<\/strong>, like a giant white blanket covering the world. It looked so big and <\/span>scary<\/strong>, almost like it didn\u2019t want us there. \u201cAre we really going to trek through this?\u201d one of my friends asked the guide. When we first saw the snowy hills through the foggy glass<\/strong> of the cable car, we could already feel the chill creeping in. We knew we\u2019d be freezing for days. For the next three days, we walked through the deep snow<\/strong>, tried skiing (and fell a million times<\/strong>), and found some amazing hidden spots<\/strong> on the way up. It was tough, but also kind of awesome!<\/p>\n

In winter, visitors from all over India come to ski and enjoy the snow-covered beauty of this little town in the Garhwal Himalayas<\/strong>.<\/a> But when spring and summer roll around, Auli transforms. The snow melts, and the meadows come alive with colorful flowers<\/strong> and wildlife<\/strong>. These seasons are perfect for trekking<\/strong> and camping<\/strong>, making every day an adventure!<\/p>\n

Every winter, hundreds of tourists<\/strong> visit Uttarakhand\u2019s charming ski resort<\/strong>, Auli, for a slice of its European-like magic<\/strong>. Sitting at an altitude of about 2,909 meters above sea level<\/strong>, Auli is surrounded by the majestic snowy peaks<\/strong> of Nanda Devi<\/strong>, Kamet<\/strong>, and Dunagiri<\/strong>, creating a view that feels straight out of a postcard.<\/p>\n

A week-long stay<\/strong> is just the right amount of time to soak in the town’s beauty. Most visitors begin with a night’s rest at Joshimath<\/strong> and then take a breathtaking cable car ride<\/strong> <\/a>up to Auli the next morning\u2014a refreshing and exciting start to their adventure!<\/p>\n

Skiing<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Skiing<\/strong> was the heart of every day. There wasn\u2019t much else to do, so we spent hours on the slopes before heading back to the cabin<\/strong>, careful not to get caught outside once the snow turned into sharp, icy patches.<\/p>\n

Dinner was simple but comforting, served in the cozy dining hall<\/strong> near our cottage. Through the glass windows, we could see the twinkling lights<\/strong> of the town, like a warm hug on those cold nights.<\/p>\n

Out of our four days, we spent two skiing<\/strong>, one trekking through the snow, and the last one simply recovering. After sunset, there wasn\u2019t much action in town.<\/p>\n

All the shops and cafes were in Joshimath<\/strong>, so evenings meant staying indoors, chatting, or resting. Mornings, however, came with a challenge of their own\u2014breaking the ice in the bucket<\/strong> just to brush your teeth. It was all part of the Auli experience!<\/p>\n

Trekking<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Trekking<\/strong> in Auli is an adventure you won\u2019t forget. While the climb isn\u2019t too challenging, having a professional guide<\/strong> is essential. It\u2019s not a journey you\u2019d want to take on your own. We started our trek around 10 in the morning<\/strong> and returned by early afternoon, just as the snow started to fall.<\/p>\n

At the summit, the view is nothing short of breathtaking<\/strong>. You\u2019re surrounded by towering deodars and oaks<\/strong>, their branches delicately coated with the night\u2019s fresh snowfall.<\/p>\n

Nestled in the Himalayan range<\/strong>, the vantage point offers a perfect glimpse of the surrounding peaks. I sat there for nearly twenty minutes<\/strong>, forgetting the biting sub-zero temperatures<\/strong>, completely mesmerized by the serene beauty.<\/p>\n

One sight that stood out was Dunagiri Peak<\/strong>, directly visible from where we rested. I joked about the mythical healing herb<\/strong> said to grow there, and our guide\u2019s earnest agreement left us speechless. It felt like a truly magical moment<\/strong>, one that words couldn\u2019t fully capture.<\/p>\n

The descent<\/strong>, however, was another story. As the snow began to harden, every step demanded caution. By the time we reached the base, it had already begun snowing again, making me question why I had agreed to trek in the first place. Still, the experience was worth every slippery step.<\/p>\n

Ideal Months<\/strong><\/h3>\n

When snow falls in Auli<\/strong>, it\u2019s like a glittering storm, with the glacial wind<\/strong> brushing against your skin. January<\/strong> often brings blizzards, and I vividly remember the howling winds<\/strong> keeping me awake on my third night there. While snow blankets Auli all year round, the best months for skiing<\/strong> are between December and February<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Switzerland of India<\/strong><\/h3>\n

On our last day, heavy snowfall made the cable car inoperable<\/strong>, leaving us with two choices: extend our stay or brave the road to Joshimath by car.<\/p>\n

The drive was both challenging and beautiful<\/strong>, showcasing nature\u2019s raw power. While many Indian hill towns claim the title of the Switzerland of India<\/strong>, Auli genuinely earns it. Its snowy charm<\/strong> and serene landscapes make you feel like you\u2019ve stumbled into Santa\u2019s village in Finland<\/strong>. The only thing that rivals Auli\u2019s beauty is the warmth of its people<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Getting There<\/strong><\/h3>\n

To reach Auli:<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. Fly<\/strong> directly to Dehradun Jolly Grant Airport<\/strong>, then continue by road.<\/li>\n
