It is said to be the only temple in Kumaon<\/strong> that was constructed in just one night<\/strong>. Acharya Trilok Giri Goswami<\/strong> of Bageshwar<\/strong> told Local 18<\/strong> that from the 7th to the 11th century<\/strong>, the Katyuri dynasty<\/strong> ruled this region. At that time, this place was called Kartikeya Pur<\/strong> and it also served as the capital of the Katyuri kings<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Katyuri rulers<\/strong> were considered great patrons of art, culture, and religion<\/strong>. It is their legacy<\/strong> that gave rise to this grand Baijnath temple complex<\/strong>, which is situated on the banks of the Gomti River in the Katyur Valley<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The belief associated with this temple<\/strong> is extremely interesting and mysterious<\/strong>. It is said that the Katyuri kings<\/strong><\/a> were visited in a dream by Lord Shiva<\/strong>, who ordered them to construct the temple in a single night<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Following this divine instruction<\/strong>, the king immediately gathered artisans<\/strong> and had the temple built from stones overnight<\/strong>. According to the belief<\/strong>, a group of 18 temples<\/strong> was completed that same night, with the main temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
