Omkarananda Ashram- Kamakshi Devi Mandir

Rishikesh is an ancient city in India that is popular for its temples and ashrams. One must-visit temple in Rishikesh is the Swami Omkarananda Ashram Kamakshi Devi Mandir. Others come to Rishikesh to visit Shree Vithal Ashram, which offers yoga teacher training. This ashram was started by Shri V.T. Chitnis.

Kamakshi Devi Mandir

The Kamakshi Devi Mandir is a holy shrine dedicated to the goddess Kamakshi Devi, a form of the goddess Parvati Devi. The temple is known for its architecture in the south Indian style.

The Swami Omkarananda Ashram is located near the foothills of the Himalayas, providing visitors with an amazing view of the Himalayan mountains and their surroundings. The temple was built by Gurudev Paramahamsa Omkarananda Saraswati and is also known as the Sanayas Ashram in Rishikesh.

Sri Vitthal Ashram Rishikesh

Many pilgrims come to this serene place to visit the Vitthal temple. Here, they can participate in morning and evening rituals to the Vithal idol.

The scenic view of the Ganga river and the Majestic Himalayan mountains, along with the reverberating sound of Vedic chants, create devotional vibes for pilgrims. A large number of pilgrims visit this holy place every day

The Founder

The founder of this place, Shri V.T.Chitnis, got inspired by the majestic and holy Himalayan mountains. The imprint of the Himalayan mountain in his mind made him start an Ashram, which provides a stay for the aspirants who want to learn yoga and meditation, as well as for pilgrims who visit Rishikesh along with the adventure activities like trekking and so on.

In this ashram, they have well-furnished rooms, a Meditation hall, a Yoga hall, Good sattvic food dining hall. Apart from this, they have a free wifi facility inside the ashrama.

History of Sri Vitthal Ashram

Once Shri V.T.Chitnis was on a trip to Kalisha Mansarovar yatra to dip his father’s ashes in the holy waters. However, he was mesmerized by the beauty of the Himalayas and decided to start an ashram at the foothills of the mountains.

How to reach this ashram?

The nearest airport to the ashram is Jolly Grant airport, and the nearest railway station is Rishikesh. From there, you can take local transport to the ashram. The ashram is located in the Muni Ki Reti town in Tehri Garhwal district, near Rishikesh.

Omkarananda Kamakshi Devi Mandir

The main Kamakshi Devi temple is located in the midst of other smaller shrines to other gods and goddesses. Inside the temple complex, there are three other small shrines beside the Kamakshi Devi mandir – Shri Meenakshi Devi temple, Shri Chamundi Devi temple, and Venkantswara, swami, and Padmavati Devi mandir. Gurudev Paramahamsa, Omkarananda Saraswati mandir is also located inside the temple complex.

A Littel History 

The construction of the Omkarananda Kamakshi temple in Rishikesh was blessed by Gurudev Paramahamsa Omkarananda Saraswati. In contrast to the other temples in Rishikesh, the architecture of this temple is in the south Indian style. The Kanchipuram head priest was present to help with the construction of the temple.
