Hariyali Devi Temple in Uttarakhand, India being famous for its rich culture and traditions is popular for many temples. Each temple has its own history and its own story. Amongst some of the most popular destinations with the rich mythological background are Uttarakhand, Rishikesh, Varanasi and the list goes on. Located in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand is another popular temple called Hariyali Devi temple.  As the name suggests Hariyali temple is devoted to Maa Hariyali Devi and also worshipped as Bala Devi and Vaishno Devi. The major attraction of the temple is the idol of Maa Hariyali Devi mounted on a lion. However, it houses another two idols called as Kshatrapal and Heet Devi. It is a Hindu temple located.

According to Hindu mythology, it is believed that when Mahamaya was born the seventh issue of Devaki, Kansa violently threw Mahamaya on the ground. At that time Mahamaya’s body split into different parts and fell on different places. The hand is believed to fall at Hariyali Kantha.


Located at an altitude of 1371 m the temple is very difficult to access.  The roads are steep and the route is difficult to follow for beginners. To reach to Hariyali Devi temple first you have to reach to Nagrasu. From Nagrasu you have to travel for 18km to reach to Rudraprayag towards Gauchar at NH58. following this route leads to Siddha Peeth of Hariyali Devi which is 22 km away. The Hariyali Devi temple is approximately 38 km away from Rudraprayag. The temple is surrounded by various high mountains and peaks along with thick forests covering the roads in its shelter.


As the temple is visited by people all throughout the year the temple is open throughout the year for its devotees. However, during the festive season of Dhanteras, Rakshabandhan, Diwali, and Navaratri, more people visit here. If you visit during these times you can see devotes carrying the idol of Maa Hariyali Devi to Hariyala Kantha which is the Siddha Peeth in a Palanquin which is 6-7 km away.
