The temple stands for  Virbhadra, a fierce form of Lord Shiva. It is a potent temple situated in the town of Virbhadra, near Rishikesh. The temple can be easily accessed through the nearby Virbhadra Railway Station or by hiring a taxi, as it is located on the highway connecting Haridwar and Rishikesh.
